i do believe you have to update your DOT medical. chances are, if you let that lapse, you have to go thru the whole shebang all over again. schooling, testing, etc.
then if you ever did or do, "detail work", why not as anyone of the construction trucking companies you did detail work for?
you would be a shoe-in since they already know you.
so how are you set with that...is the first question.Silidons Thanks this. -
We don't believe you; show the truck picture.....lol

Check out hauling cans (shipping containers) out of the Long Beach/LA ports to the giant warehouses (guess where?) - 40 to 60 miles east of LA.

If you dont need the money and you just want the adventure, you might want to try Schneider National Carriers. The ones with the orange trailers. Schneiderjobs.com punch in your zip code and a list of the available jobs will come up. With your LE status, you might be able to use your background to get your foot in the door at some level, even if it's in security (investigating freight theft, stolen trucks etc) , weigh station/border liaison, someone one that knows how to deal with law enforcement type issues, then let the terminal manager know you have your CDL and see if he will let you do some yard work/ local runs. Their 401k has a self directed option that allows you to invest in your own individual stocks. The only one in the trucking industry as far as I know.

What you running? Hauling grain in a hopper or end dump, Seed in a van or ferts in a tanker? You O/O?
Edit: I didn’t read all the way through, disregardSilidons Thanks this. -
Hmm, well I know for my department, there's no class A option for a fully sworn employee, although they may wear the same uniform, somethings stand out about what makes them fully sworn or not (gold stripe down leg with the class B uniform for example). I know my department does the whole class B license court runs, but not a fan of transporting inmates tbh lol.
that's actually one of the companies I did submit an application for! I just did that friday, and am waiting a response.
I did last update my medical in 2019....I never ever received anything to update it, for some reason I thought it was every 2 years but before I posted this I saw it said every year? I don't want that to be the case...I'm going to go this week and get another DOT physical. I have never received anything in the mail, how would I know if it actually expired? My actual DL expires next year. Would I be screwed already?
I've never done any of this detail work that you speak of lol.
Yeah Schiender was one of the companies that I had contacted, but they aren't hiring any part-time drivers out here.
Yeah, I don't have any experience though....trust me I've looked around a lot.
The one someone suggested that I had not found was ABF Freight, I'm definitely going to check them out. Now I'm stressing about the medical if the last time I did it was in 2019....oh well I guess some more practice wouldn't be so bad if I lapsed. The DMV has NEVER EVER mailed me anything. -
The expiration date will be on the card, most are 2 year cards, unless you have medical issues. Also, a drivers med exp will come up when you run a CDL license check on a driver; however, you likely know that...
