Pprofitability aside, is it possible to drive a truck part time. Here's my theory//proposed situation;
I can go to a locl community college and get a Class A fairly cheaply
I ave also found many decent used trucks for around $20 -$30 and go the O/O route
I found a company online that lets you pick the loads you want to haul, forna smallncommision. I think big dog dispatch is thier name
so, could i set up ans an o/o and pick several loads to run one weekend a month
Also, i ddont really have much real estate so are there loads that would let you use thier trailers?
I wouldnt expect to make much money, but would like to break even.
basically, i dontnhave the guts to quite my job and so this full time, and think this would be a cool way to see the country and drive a truck.
Is part time trucking possible?

Firstly, you can't 'see the country' driving 'several loads' on a weekend.
Secondly, you can't buy any truck for 30 bucks.
Thirdly, profitability aside, you won't even break even - by a long shot.
Fourthly, your OP reads like you are not all in one place.
Or sane, or sober.
Fiftly...
No guts, no glory.
So, go for it.rodzilla Thanks this. -
Schneider has part time gigs. don't go o/o in this economy you'll screw yourself with a part time thing

Going the O/O route right out of school with no experience is incredibly risky. Most who try it end up losing their shirts. If you're going to throw only working one weekend a month on top of that, losing your shirt is pretty much guaranteed. If you took all your money, put it in pile, poured gasoline on it and set it on fire you'd save a lot of time and end up with the same end result.

You could maybe get on with UPS they have part-time unload/load shifts in the a.m. and p.m. you wouldn't be driving a truck, but that way you could keep your job and have the option of getting into one of their truck jobs down the road.
I did the a.m. unload years back and it pd ok for a pt job and it was easy if you don't mind a little physical labor. -
SNI does have part time positions.......but you need 6 months exp. I think, to get on it.
