I don't see the drilling going alot longer up here... The price of Natural Gas has dropped alot, this gas is just like the oil around here, unless the price is high it doesn't make sense to take it out of the ground. Permits are way down. It would be nice if it would end up slowing down, and be steady work for several years, but IDK. I have a friend that owns a couple of trucks hauling sand, and he is thinking about adding another couple of trucks... The only problem, you are paid on a 1099, and no benefits.

ran into a trainer yesterday that had a new cascadia, no apu and no inverter. the trk was equiped with battery powered cold pack and the standard bunk heater. I asked how long the cold pack is good for and he said about 12 to 13 hours depending on
hot it is outside. nice looking truck. from what ive seen roehl is getting away from the
tri-pac unit and going with the battery powered units on the pro-stars and cascadias, I have no idea what the volvo has. anybody got any feed-back good or bad on the battery powered apu's. Just curious, currently in two home-time fleet trucks with tri-pacs and inverters and Im spoiled because of them. but I like it !

Sorry to hear that, I was really spoiled by having an apu with inverter also. I used to run a small microwave, and I have a 12v fridge. I will probably get some old worn out truck again anyway, that seems to be what they like to keep me in...

Yeah it was one of the ones that sat up there for three or four years... It had plenty of problems too... I just want a truck that I can make money with, one that stays out of the shop.

They told us in RDTC that Roehl was going away from the APU's because a lot of guys were "abusing" them. They said a decent amount were also letting them run while on hometime due to not knowing to turn them off. lol.

I hope I get a truck with an APU but will make due, and be happy with whatever I get.

Alot of guys I talk to hate the new trucks cause the batteries only last 10 hours... I think roehl is making a mistake cause they are gonna spend more on batteries than they would on tripacks . The real reason they aren't putting tripacks on is they are getting the kickback from the government anymore... I love my apu and will miss it if I ever get a new truck...

That is exactly why, was told in marshfield awhile back that the grant money for the apu's was gone and since then, no more apu's have been put on trucks. go figure lol... need to get my serviced come to think of it LMAO.

We will buy them if someone else will pay for it, even though it is a cost savings if we purchased them ourselves... Makes perfect sense to me. If I was buying a truck I would have some sort of idle reduction on it, be it a battery system or a regular APU. That is the only way that you can get the rest that you need to be able to safely operate the truck. I have seen payback calculations on APU's in as little as 6 months, just on the fuel savings, so why wouldn't you buy one? Oh well, they will do what they think is best for the bottom line anyway, not what is best for the driver. That is obvious by the way they spec the trucks...

"Abusing" the apu? That's funny what do they mean? Running the things in your truck that keep you comfy? They want you to minimize the use of their equipment. Regardless of your comfort. I realize having tons of items running all the time make the apu work harder. Its not abuse tho.
They don't want to simply say the real reason. It is the gov money that changes it from being fiscally better.
PA- that's right. You can have mine. Oh wait its a midroof. Lol you'll have to share the bunk with students. Hehe.
