We used to haul that much weight and more around all the time, without ABS, Traction control, AC, and if you go back far enough power steering. The truck and trailer will still safely stop without ABS, YOU just have to know how to drive it!

I DO know how to drive it without ABS and all that safety junk.

MY concern is dot or other law enforcement writing it up. I've been passed by numerous fhp officers and have been pulled into every weigh station in Florida. They haven't said anything to me about it yet. But id like to have it fixed anyway.

Dude here's a little secret, unplug the abs light or remove bulb.
When done with trailer hook it back up, problem solved !
I also let maint know the light stays on and go about my day.
Roehl isn't going to repair a abs problem on the road to costly.
Be ready to solve little problems yourself, that way you stay moving. :biggrin_25525:

Carl might as well cut it... lol
settle down PA. He, dirty just is tired of the typical crap. Lol
dirty I would still call safety and ask them about who gets a ticket and points. The dispatchers are not DOT officers or even experts. Safety should know. Good luck with the situation.

I don't think ABS is a DOT requirement. It should not effect your or Roehl's CSA. I've had ABS problems in the past and it was a no issue with DOT. Rules may have changed. My experience was a couple of years ago.

Well it doesn't matter anyway. I dropped the trailer at my customer and picked up a 65 series, ugh.

Anyway I called maintenance and let them know it was a drop and hook. They said they'll get it fixed at some point.

Hindsy your right. I'm just tired of calling into maintenance and being told that basically Roehl doesn't want to fix anything. I will say I've never had a problem being reimbursed for purchases for the truck though. Their good about that

Part of the maintenance issue is who you get when you call in. Some are actually true mechanics and have a clue about what's going on, others are clueless and just want to get to the next call. I had an issue once as a company driver and they deadheaded me 150 miles to Gary. The mechanic told dispatch that the truck was going to the shop-now. Then I've had the same issue with the ABS light and got the same useless help. The problem with the ABS is that most mechanics don't know how to trace out the issue. It could be anything from a short in a wire to a computer module in the truck or trailer. The only person I've found anywhere that really knows how they work is the shop manager in Appleton.

I had an issue where the ABS would come on briefly when I applied the brakes. As I continued to brake the light went out. No one including Freightliner knew what the problem was, until I went to Appleton. Turns out a fuse had blown on the main hot wire to the trailer, so the system would "borrow" power from another circuit. Evidently when I hooked up the pigtail with the lights on it was causing the circuit to arc and blowing the fuse that controlled the trailer ABS. I now hook up the trailer with the lights off and haven't had a problem.

Some of the 65 series are Wabashes and less than ten years old.

Thing is an ABS light is a DOT violation...just not as weighted...FYI a disconnected ABS light will get you a pretty ticket from DOT if you get inspected...if you read Roehl's saftey thing on whatever guberment website (yeah I can't remember) you will see we have been getting hemmed up with bad ABS systems on trailers.... if you don't think its safe to pull don't pull it and call safety and give them the name of the knucklehead that told you to yank it all over gods creation...
FYI I had a run of ABS lights on trailers that I traced to my pigtail...I had to rewire the connector as most of the wires were broke on it...took me all of five minutes...now I haven't had any major issues since with my pigtail...just a bunch of crappy trailers I have had to adjust brakes, tighten nuts on airbags...etc...its a pain in the ###...and while I am on it SWEEP YOUR #### TRAILERS OUT!!! I am sick of sweeping out trailers everytime I grab one...I understand the Drop Hooks at customers...but the yards there is no excuse...
