Brake Adjustment certification is a 10 min lesson (listen to someone explain) then you sign a paper saying you learned what he said.....Small companies Certifiy you in orientation like Watkins Shepard so you can do it yourself legally not that it matters

Well hell I feel better now I wasn't the only one who had something like this happen. I was vivid the next few days because of that bull crap. However, on the brake adjustment topic, I guess it's ok to adjust them I was just told otherwise. Just it is the point that maintenance expects me to do it for free. Which is what really brothers me. Yes I want to get back out on the road making money but I shouldn't have to constantly work on your equipment for free.

Hell I tell them all the time, if there is a trailer issue and they want to route me down some old road where a shop is thats 20 miles out of my route (not paid) I won't go. I'll go to a truck stop if its a quick fix (tires, airlines / elect) minor things which is all it usually is. Now if it's the shop in Jacksonville by our drop yard, hell that's quick to get to so I wouldn't mind going to that.

Be careful at the TA on I-10 just out of Jacksonville. DOT loves to sit there and pull you over for an inspection as you get on the interstate. It happened to me and they have quite a reputation at the TA. Turns out they like to put trucks out of service on the spot and not even let them go back to the TA for repairs. He did a level 3 and I had no violations, but I had just had a hub leak repaired on the trailer. I was getting on the interstate and there he sat as you made your turn.

    Exit 343 eh?

Pilot and a TA side by side right? Had my trailer tire repair there, plus I spend the night there quite often. As its off of 301 it's about 15-30 miles from the house so I usually get a friend to ride over to the family and hang. (If that is the TA your speaking of). As for the DOT, Haven;t seen them yet. Then again it doesn't surprise me as how many trucks park on that main road shoulder.

Welcome to the underbelly of OTR. Unpaid compensation. Wait to get your truck fixed at a terminal. Unpaid. Wait at a truckstop between dispatches. Unpaid. Perform minor repairs on their truck. Unpaid. Wait to get loaded or unloaded. Paid very little. Drive out of route to avoid toll roads. Unpaid. Hand unload a truck and it takes less than an hour. Unpaid. It isn't just Roehl it is industry wide. Until truckers wake up and stand together it will continue. Now, your only choice is quit the industry or hop to another company where it will happen again.

I have to say Roehl has become better than a lot of companies when it comes to toll roads. I know USX sends their drivers over US 30 through Ohio and Indiana rather than taking the shorter route on the Turnpike.

US 30 is a pain. I live by US 30 and I-69 so whenever I go home from the west, (often) I have to take 30 from Gary to Fort Wayne. Too many lights. US 27 is worse though and if I go home from the south I end up on that too. :/

My advice is get out, and don't look back. Sleep in your own bed, enjoy your family. Since I have stopped driving I have lost 10lbs (so far) my blood pressure is much better, and I just feel better all around. It is nice getting out of that 6 x 8 cell, I mean truck... For anyone considering driving truck, don't!!! There are other jobs out there that pay just as well, and you don't have to work 70 hours a week. Just my two cents!!!

However, on the flip side, many of us enjoy over the road.
