Hey drivers, there ain't no such thing as "the promised land" when it comes to a truck driving job. Or ANY job for that matter.
You just have to pick what you can live with, and if you can't live with it, then try someplace else. But someplace else will have its problems too.
I guess I was sort of "blessed" when I first started out. I hired on with a very small company that had at one time been pretty good. Same old story, Dad built the business, then turned it over to his snot nosed kid who ran it right into the ground.
They were typical of your bad company, give you loads that were impossible to deliver on time, let alone doing it legally, screwing you out of pay, telling you wrong time for appointments, crappy equipment and on and on.
Anyhow, after working for this outfit for a (very) short time, I really appreciated the other companies that I have worked for!
Is Roehl the 'promised land' of trucking??

They really need to get someone to clean up these trucks in Gary. My last two students got their trucks from Marshfield. Both had just over a 100k on them and were very clean. The last student was even getting a APU installed.

Sorry, but what does "FM" stand for? Fleet Mgr? And what exactly is he? I know of Terminal Mgr and Dispatcher only. What is "DSR" and what do they do?
You can laugh now but please answer! -
Let's get a couple of things straight here people....
1. I am not a complete newbie, I do have 2 years experience (i realize that this does not make me as experienced as other people.)
2. I DO NOT expect as a new driver to get new equipment, runs etc. If you look at my posts the fact that I am kept moving is definitely one of the better things. However, I do expect the equipment to be fit for human habitation. The first truck was absolutely disgusting, of which the Terminal Manager agreed.
3. I DO NOT expect a company to be the 'promised land' of trucking, it was very much a 'tongue in cheek' description an ironic maybe even sarcastic play on what a lot of people seem to think.
4. I am, despite everything reasonably happy at Roehl. I just think that people need to be aware that they are NOT the absolute best in the whole world as some people seem to make them out to be.
5. As a previous poster said the insurance is absolutely dire. Its fine if you don't actually have to use it and very expensive for what it is. And yes, this could very well shape any decisions regarding my future.
Take care all and be safe! -
So, if you don't like your DSR, wait a few weeks and you can get another. I had 6 in 14 months, but I got to keep one for 5 months, and she was great.
But alas, she got transferred and I got a Fleet manager, took about 3 weeks of his garbage and quit. -
