I have my cdl permit. I am considering sage, I am interested in the career, but I am un sure of my next step either sage or a company sponsored program. What would be better? Any recommendations?

With Sage you will have more options of companies to choose from.

Midwest-coast Transport has a terminal in Boise and also has their own CDL school.

Sage would be the better choice. Several good companies hire new CDL grads out of Idaho.
Which town do you live near in Idaho?

I'm in WA and sort of the going rate for trucking schools with the 160-hour curriculum ranges from $3400-5400. (160 hours is required by the state for a CDL).
I understand Ill. has schools for about $1800-2100, but you get what you pay for. (sometimes). It might make sense to relocate to a state with really lax CDL licensing and get a job with a breakout company in that state. (TX comes to mind). -No income tax, which will be a big deal and Melton is right there and solid as can be.

You might also look into PELL grants, vocational rehab, displaced worker and veterans benefits to help you pay for school. Personally, $4000 for a school that prepares you to make $36-40k your first year and up to 70k realistically if you're willing to run hard and long isn't a bad investment in your future. Just make #### sure the school is a good one. PM me for questions on that. I've just been through that wringer and might be able to help you with some recent experience going through it.

Look these over and decide which you like best.
There may be more other drivers will post.

Companies that hire new CDL grads from private CDL schools:
    Decker Truck Line
    Jones Bros. Trucking
    Pride Transport
    Doug Andrus Distributing
    Gordon Trucking
    Freymiller
    System Transport
    TWT Refrigerated Service
    Schneider

Trucking company CDL schools(provide lodging & meals):
    Midwest-coast Transport
    Southern Refrigerated Transport
    Wil-Trans
    Earl Henderson Trucking

I didn't add Swift school because they're installing cameras and other monitoring devices in the trucks. You can decide if you want to deal with that or not.
Twin Falls and most of Idaho is off the grid for many companies, but still some good ones to choose from.
If you attend a trucking company CDL school, the tuition is waived if you agree to work there 12 months. After 12 months you can move on if you wish and still have your $4000.00 in the bank.

I understand you wanting to get a good deal on a school. You said that you are looking for a career in trucking. Working for at least 20 years in trucking you should earn somewhere between 1 and 2 million dollars. I think a $ 4,000.00 investment in yourself, and your ability to earn, is well worth it. I paid $ 3,200.00 in 1985 to attend a school. I have been in this industry for 29+ years and I have never been out of work. Good luck.

Are you laid-off? You might be able to qualify for WIA.

Thanks for all the advice and support, I am not even in the career yet and y' all already make me feel welcomed. I defiantly want to make sure I get the proper training. I will look into more schools that I can get into. I want to be a professional that way the veterans in the business know they are leaving the trucking industry in good hands. I do have the cash saved up to pay I just didn't want to get scammed out of my money. I am investigating the companies you have provide as well.

The main selling point with Sage is that it's just you and the instructor in the truck. One on one, no other classmates riding along waiting their turn and causing distractions.

I do want to get my return on investment, you have great options in the pell grant, but I already used that option when I went to business school. I do want the return in my investment other than money I want to be safe and professional. I want to do this for a future so I will take to heart what you said " I get what I pay for",so before I get into a school I will ask many questions.
