Got my CDL Class A this week.

My background in trucking - I drove a non CDL box truck throughout NY, NJ, CT, PA. This is obviously different than tractor-trailer driving, but I know trucking. I'm not a complete newbie where I don't understand the truck, rules of the road, etc.

I wanna get a couple months of experience in. I heard the other MEGAs have you with a trainer for like 3 months or 6 months.

I heard about Schneider training program where it's 3 weeks with a trainer then you are on your own. This is what I prefer.

Is Schneider a good company to get the initial experience in?
How much do they pay new drivers?
How do they pay? per mile? 1099 or W2?
Do they do OTR or is it all regional and more closer to home?
Is it possible to get in at least 2500 miles a week if they do OTR?

I am in NJ so will most likely do their dedicated regional accounts if they don't do OTR.

    Zoltan1a Thanks this.

Who in the world told you 3 - 6 months with a trainer? That's insane. As far as Schneider goes...they have multiple accts. that all pay different. W - 2 pay. Never do that 1099 crap, period. I'd recommend Schneider over Swift, Prime, and the other biggies any day. Go on there website under driver jobs, put in your zip code and start looking.

TransAm is a little rough around the edges there....they will most likely try to force him into a lease and the pay there is $1.04 mile so somewhere in that ball park. A couple of drivers that a work with now used to work there and those stories were horrific. Another friend who was a prospective driver wanted to work there, and I actually called them. They wouldn't even entertain drivers looking for company positions.

The OP said he just needs a couple months experience. Guess he already has something in mind after that.
    You're right though about TransAm.
