Oh, and to the OP. Always go into a turn with one gear lower than you think it should. If you NEED a lot more speed to clear traffic, you didn't have clearance to turn. You can always go faster later, but too many critical stability events by doing 25mph around a corner, and you'll be talking to safety with no leg to stand on, and likely no future paychecks, either.

Based on the OPs comment I am assuming he was taking his road test to get the CDL and now has it. I still stand by what I said about vehicle control.

Matter of give or take half an hour here or there. The "near stall" was during the final road test. Thus, at THAT time, he only had his permit. Grab a scalpel if you want to split more hairs.

Im not here to give you a hard time, Im trying to point out that there are people who are not as gifted and we must be able to make allowances for their failures.
Ive always been punched when the engine stalled out. Sometimes punished over and over until I added enough fuel not to stall. That was how i learned. The rest of the minutae came later as I learned the engine chart of power and so forth.scottied67 Thanks this. -

So was I, my father taught me on an old split shift Mack when I was in my early teens. He actually hit me in the face with his fist if I lugged and stalled. To answer the post before yours it is exactly what he asked.

One last thing to those of you that would give allowance to lugging. I suspect there are OO's that read these forums. Ask one of these OOs how they would react if someone lugged their (baby). Also what if YOU were paying the mechanical bills? Anybody want to hazard a guess on what an engine O/H costs?

I don't know, the only O/O I would ask is Gunner75. The way he momentum floats over the smaller hills is a joy in fuel economy and judicious use of the lower end of the power band. =)
