I fully understand the strain of OTR and that it is difficult, however not impossible. I also do know about local driving as opposed to OTR. I want to do OTR and get my experience so I can better myself and be able to get a better job when I have experience. However being somewhat new to this I also know that I don't have to stay out a month at a time, some companies are better than others although they all have their negatives of course. Right now I'm simply trying to decide between flatbed, dry van, reefer. I've been leaning toward flatbed lately, but am open to other suggestions based on what you, the drivers have to say.

I too have heard they require you to stay out a long time (ones I talked to said 3 to 5 weeks, with 5 being more of the norm)...but they told me they were getting decent miles and aside from sitting at meat packing plants waiting on loads, they run pretty good.

Yes, Stevens does require you to stay out 4 to 6 weeks at a time, then home for up to 5 days.
As for miles, when I was solo I averaged 2900 miles a week.
Once your solo for 6 months or more you "may" be able to get on a dedicated account depending on where you live and a few other things. No gaurantee on that but its possible. Usually with dedicated you'll get home a lot more often but for shorter time periods. Example, if your out 2 weeks, and go home you would be home for 2 days. 3 weeks, 3 days etc ... but thats only possible on dedicated accounts.

Yea, TMC was my first choice, but I talked to them and they want 3-6 months experience. I thought about Maverick, but don't know a lot about them. And Schneider has that "homerun" program, but I got to call them and get some more info on that.

Dedicated would be great, but I know that can be hard to come by. 4-6 weeks would be tough, but it may not be impossible, the days off would be nice after being gone that long.

Would Roehl consider someone with little experience?
