I have heard so much negative stuff about swift. Are they really that bad? What if you are just starting out?

Are they that bad no. Been with them 4 years well 4 years on nov 12.
I have got paid on time. No really screw ups on pay. Not to say I never have, but really nothing to complain about. That was not fixed next pay check. Pay is a lot faster then when I 1st started with them. As soon as you do your macro 6 IE empty call you get paid for that run just have to turn the BOL with in 6 to 8 days. keep you moving for the most part I get 2200 to 2800ish. I could get more but I am retired Army I have no debt and just waiting for my wife to retire form the Army. That will be in 3 years and then ill just be in a nice big RV going 55 and making the super truckers mad.
Some will say they are the Satan and that god needs to smite them. Some have had bad experience with them but for the most part they are just a large trucking company just like any large company I can find people that hate the company they work for and find some that love the company. Swift has made improvements since I have been with them in 4 years mostly all for the good. for the most part just pick up on time and deliver on time don't mess up the truck nor trailer and you will be fine.

I think it all comes down to attitude. If you approach truck driving with a good attitude that some unpleasent things will happen, just like in any job, the sooner you move past the offending task for today, the much better you will be. I will be going to school at Swift's training acadamy in Millington, Tn on the 28th of Nov and looking forward to getting back into the truck after being out on disability since 2001. Yes, Swift was one of two companies that have schools that would hire me, the other one was Central Refridgerated in SLC, I just didn't want to get into refridgerated freight again.

If you take any trucking company, and I mean ANY, there will be good and bad said about it. Like Druid said, mind your own business, pick up and deliver on time and don't tear up the equipment and you will be more then fine.

They might not be too bad for a newbee. But for someone who has driven for a good company, they will soon find out that Swift is no good. They have some drivers who have been there for a long time, and seem to like it.Evidently they have never driven for a decent outfit. My short experience with Swift came after driving for a couple of good companies, then retiring and later getting back into trucking. My main concerns were with dispatchers, they seem to be able to get away with murder, and have to answer to no one.So in my case I have driven for good cos.and as far as I am concerned the worst one out there which is Swift. Just read most of the posts here, gotta be a reason for a co.(Swift) to be downgraded so much. There are several big companies that will start you out,Schneider just to name one.I have talked with several of their younger drivers at various unloading locations, and they seem to be a very happy group. If you are bound and determined to go with Swift, good luck to ya.However if you want to take some advice from an old fart who has been around the trucking industry for quite awhile, look elsewhere

I think Swift isn't that bad of a company as long as they don't screw up your information. I've seen many truckers happy with them, and I was as well, until, I found out that my wife wanted a divorce.
I immediately called my DM after I got off the phone with her, to see about getting my paychecks put onto my ComData card. He said not to worry about it, he had it taken care of. I called him again later on, as she got my paycheck that time.... Don't worry about it I will straighten it out he told me..... then she got my next paycheck as well. Oops, you need to go to a terminal and fill out some paper work was the reply, so I went to Greer SC, and filled out the form.
She got my my third paycheck from them as well. :biggrin_25511:
I actually liked working for them, minus their lack of ability to be organized with anything. I think as long as they get your paper work correct the first time, and you don't have any life changing events that they need to know about, then they're a decent company.
People complain about miles because they chose what is called the homerun category, and thus they have a region they run in. Those that do all 48 seem more satisfied with pay and what not.
Most people who say bad things about Swift have been screwed up the ### by them, such as myself in regards to my paycheck. However, I can't say all bad things about them. They have their good points too. It's just easier to for us who have been screwed by them to tell you about the bad. Not everyone gets screwed over like I did. I wouldn't have gotten screwed over if it wasn't for the whole divorce thing..... But they shouldn't tell me one thing, and then it not work.

Here we go again,a driver who was screwed big time by Swift and still sticking up for them.I just dont understand it. I was with Swift for 4 months and my post here was exactly how I feel about them.I could fill up 2 or 3 complete pages with ways they tried to screw over me,but I dont feel that should be neccescarry. I am the type of guy who always gave 100 percent to my job, made deliveries on time, was always ready to go,etc. But after being out 3 to 4 weeks at a time, then having to fight tooth and nail with my DM,to get home for 3 days,I pulled the plug.As for the driver who is sticking up for Swift after being screwed by them, there are some people that you can pi$$ on and tell them it is raining and they will believe you. Enough said.

Are they really that bad...? While one could certainly do better, for a "newbie" just starting-out, they're easy to get on with: Most "better" companies require at least some experience - many want 2 or more years.

I am curious, I spoke with a fellow at the Swift Millington facility and he cautioned me that the 75 pound pick up is very difficult for women. Can anyone confirm that ? My wife and I are thinking of team driving with Swift.
