My wife and I did it for 40 years. These guys are giving you great advice. The only thing I will add is----- For a husband and wife that truly love and enjoy being with each other, It can be the greatest life you can imagine. Love and patience will be tested for sure. We are old and retired now, but the cool thing is, we share 40 years of 24/7 memories. Great memories for sure, both the good and bad ones

Running team your are looking at driving 1200 miles every 24 hours. That’s not so easy. You can only stop the truck about 2 hours each day. You both have shower and eat and use bathrooms and eat and fuel truck in that 2 hour window.
You will be driving 5000-6000 miles a weeks. You have lean to sleep when the truck is going down the road. That’s not easy at the beginning. You can look on internet and see what companies are paying for team driver and just x that by 5000-6000 miles a week that the pay you both get -
I don't think it's been said enough...
Can you drive or function on 4 hours of sleep everyday?
Because that's what your gonna get bouncing down the road on I-80 or I-40 or I-20 east coast to west coast.
You ain't staying in a comfy bed with conditioned air, you're bouncing down the road in an upper bunk of a freightliner 24/7.
Then ask yourself, can you drive a 40 ton CMV on that sleep schedule for weeks at a time. Day in, day out. AND it's getting to be winter...
I teamed for about 6 weeks...
I like my wife, that's why I married her. I'd rather divorce her then make her stay cooped up in a truck with me for 48 hours.
I asked her once if she would shoot me, while training her to shoot. She said, no, I want to feel the life come out of you in my fingers...
Been happily married for 13 years, together 20. Probably because I'm gone all the time.Last edited: Sep 24, 2024

Lots of doom and gloom regarding team driving in this thread
It is an adjustment, no doubt about it however you can and do adjust to it. We sleep fine now while the other is driving. If you decide to do this come back here for sleeping/ living tips.
experienced teams are always in demand and can make a good living. Your first year will be less but can expect no less than $75k each.
after the first year your income depends on your priorities. Is a set schedule important to you? Does sitting empty waiting for a load and not knowing when or where the next load is bother you? Maybe running a dedicated route with weekends off is for you. There are plenty of companies who would love to have you. $2500 each per week is not out of the question.
We have our DOD security's clearances, bought our own truck and trailer and now hit the road for weeks at a time hauling AA&E for the Department of Defense. Sometimes we sit for 2or 3 days waiting for the next load or deadhead (run empty) 1200 miles to get the next load. However the money is well worth it.
My wife agreed to do this together however she demanded that we never sleep apart. Ask companies what their training program for teams is. Some require you to drive separate for 3-6 months before you can team drive. Last I knew Schneider would hire you and train you together.KDHCryo and Crusader66 Thank this.
