yup, I remember being in those debates/arguments., back in the 70's

finally proved it to myself ,going to NC from upstate NY and back,a bunch of times in a 1970 Pontiac Lemans.

    87S-84W-81S-77S. faster than 95.

one way 750 miles, best time was around 11 hrs. don't remember the mileage.

Yeah dad had a 72 Catalina with the 454. We drove it from RI to maine with the AC and got about 21 mpg. Came home with out the belt and windows down and got 17 mpg. Fun days back then. Oh and Dad's AC quit there after so he said ef it.

I wonder how much fuel could be saved if the QC was ripped out? I'm asking for a friend.

When the fan kicks in, it can pull up to 50hp to run it.

Here’s a good one. In today’s automobile, most of the fans are electric, and may have up to 4 fans depending on vehicle. Most have 2. When you have the A/C on, one of the fans turns on to keep air flow across the condenser and radiator. If the fan does not, you will see it run very hot or actually overheat.

I hate that electric fan BS. I bought a programmer for my old '11 Sierra. First thing I did after putting an external transmission cooler in was bump the fan duty cycle 10% up across the board.

Whoever told you that, to put It kindly, is an idiot.

A diesel engine will hardly notice that.

Idiot or not but has some point.
My truck idle 0.5 g/h. With AC on 0.8 g/h. With lights on 0.6 g/h

A buck an hour more for fuel is worth it for comfort IMO.

Does anyone know how much fuel is burned by a Cummins x15 at idle with the AC on? My truck has an awesome electric bunk heater and AC but when its super hot the AC keeps kicking off so I have to idle the truck. I'm wondering how much fuel it's burning because we get a 5cpm fuel bonus if we keep the mpg over a certain amount.
