When you buy your own truck does it have the auto engine shutoff idle feature after a few minutes? Or is that a company feature just like the speed limit govern? If the truck does do this, can I change it to 10 minute cutoff? There are so many times when I am using my microwave and I engage the cruise control to leave the truck running but it cuts off anyway. At first I thought it was just me but I am starting to think its a bug with the truck since I am sure I press the button.
Is the auto engine shutoff a company feature?

Generally it is a setting in the ecu. Newer trucks emissions filters and such, suffer from idling.
If you own the truck you can set it to what ever you want. Along with a ton of other items like high idle, high idle shut down over ride (why your truck still shuts down), max cruise speed, max speed, etc.
Of course you need to have hardware and software to access the ecm.OOwannaBE and skootertrashr6 Thank this. -
It is built into the ECM of the truck, if you own the truck you can take it to dealership and get the idle restriction changed to a different time or turned off completely. Also might need to have the high idle adjusted in the computer so that you can raise the rpm's and then set the cruise at that rpm. If company truck then that is something have to discuss with your company.

Its a company decision same as speed limiter. Shut them both off in the ecm.

You can turn it all off. Dealership should be able to do it fairly quickly.
Hey powder joints what's you signature a picture of? Curious if it goes with the caption. -
Looks like cement silos with the fill pipes going up the sides.....

As said above, a shop can connect with your ecm and change the idle shutoff parameters and/or stop it from engaging entirely. Until you can do that you can try this. It might work for you. On the few trucks I've had with an idle shutoff, after a pre-set amout of time, Usually @ 4 minutes, One of the dash lights (Check engine??) will start flashing It will flash for 30 seconds to one minute. When it's flashing if I tap the either the brake pedal or maybe the clutch pedal, It will discontinue the idle shutdown, the light will stop flashing and the engine will stay running.

Yeah I think I did that once accidentally since my truck didnt shutdown and I was trying to figure out what I did to cause that.

Just an FYI...if you own the truck, make #### sure if you go to a dealership to flash the ECU, tell them to reset the password to something like the last 4 of the VIN or something. They have no way of knowing nor finding out what the password is, so they have a back door into the ECU without a password. If you ever have a major breakdown in BFE, the local shop needing to access the ECU probably does not have the backdoor and can't access the ECU without a password. Just makes it easier for future if you know what the password is.
OOwannaBE and randomname Thank this.
