claims it be? He has a video published in 2013 but things might have changed since then.
Shouldn't big-box freight carriers as Swift, Walmart, Prime, CR England, JB Hunt, Schneider National all have decent modern equipment plus very good pay to boot right NOW in 2019 going on 2020?
The home time or lack thereof doesn't bother me, a middle-age lifetime bachelor. I'm prepping for CDL school right now.
Is the driver pay as horrible as Tim-the-Trucker on YouTube

Only for top hands. Trainers excepted. (Trainer pay exists at a rate so good trainer is not concerned with miles only training students which is not muling them while trainer sleeps)
Everyone else especially students get starvation wages or none at all if there is insufficient miles. It is used as a punishment tool by a dispatcher tired of whining, complaining, insubordination etc. You usually quit and go home when out of money.
Nothing will improve. Excepting those lucky enough to be in the money. But you are going to work for it and its very intense.
Everyone talks about money in trucking yeeha I wanna 1500 dollar a week miles.
Forget that, worry about your spending. So you save money on 300 dollars gross per week.
Driver pay has been staganant these last 40 years. Husband and wife teams are the most valuable. However due to operational considerations me and wife only grossed 67K in 2001 with FFE primarily. Which was below minimum wage for two of us at a rate of about 4.65 a hour each. We actually quit to haul medicines for good after a third time snafu left us with 0.00 paycheck on close to 7000 miles previous 10 days. Paperwork etc sorted that out but it took time.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
I make great money and so do a lot of people on here and out on the road. Some of the companies you mentioned are known for good pay (Walmart), bad pay (cre), and others for relentlessly trying to push you into a lease that you will 99.999999999% go broke and fail at because the cards are stacked against you (prime). Are you paying for school on your own so you won't be an indentured servant to a company? Stay away from YouTube, it's full of miserable people and people just fishing for referral money to help pay for that prime lease so they can afford some ramen tonight. @Chinatown will be by to hook you up with info on companies that hire new drivers.

Tim makes driving sound depressing. Parked in a the dirty lot nobody around a hookers at the truck stop. No more hookers at the trucks today. I would not park at dirt lots unless you need to be at delivery first thing in the morning.
Their has been one big change in trucking since Tim video. We all run legal, we run ELDs. We are making the final switch from AOBRDs to full ELDs right now
I made $62,000 last year driving a company truck and just got a new 2020 truck with a fridge from the factory. It has inverter, put in my own microwave. It has auto shift transmission, adaptive cruise control, LED lights, Disc brakes, TV mount on the wall in sleeper. Tim had a pretty old truck it looked like not much extra in it. Some trucking company today have Guaranteed Minimum pay. So they don't play the low mileage trick. They pay you even if they don't have the miles or the truck is in the shop.
Trucking it still a job in the end and working 70 hours a week can get old or if you don't work then you don't make much money and that no good also. You can look and see how pay has changed and the trucks

Ignore Tim-The-Trucker. If trucking was so bad none of us would be truckers.
If trucking was so bad, Tim-The-Trucker wouldn't be driving trucks. He needs to get off YouTube and get to work. Hanging around truck stops making YouTube videos, watching television, BS-ing with other drivers in the truck stop lounge doesn't put money in your pocket. -
