I think it's hilarious that only 4% of the vehicles on the road in this country are manuals, yet in England their almost entirely manual, but when it comes to trucks here their mostly manual, and in England their all automatic. Somethings weird about that.
Is the first step in becoming a trucker learning manual trannies?

Wow... Youtube, buy a car i have only 9 yrs driving and the answers are still amazing. Gas hauler and a few others have good advice. I guess i will tell you to get a dish rag and glue all for corners together.
But seriously if you are new to trucking shifting is just part of it. Go to school pay out of pocket or get a company to hire you on and let them pay for it. And get paid to do it. Almost Anyone can shift or learn how to. You need alot more skills to keep it in the lines on a 35mph crosswind or even keeping track of your logs. Im not a person to talk smack but alot of answers were hilarious. Age doesnt matter but an open mind and paying attention in class will get your wheels turning -
I'm about to buy a Dodge Ram 2500 that is standard (as they should be!).

some real pecimists in here. If you are serious about learning find a way to attend a school and get your CDL.

No matter how good your skills and experience become, driving like a jerk still makes you a rookie. Respect and patience are much harder to master than driving a truck.
