Do those engines run well with those programs or is it Pushing the limits of the hardware (cam, injectores etc)
-
they run ok for the size but u must remember it aint a c=15

ask fellow member stranger about this. he used to own a intl with the 11.1 400HP detroit.

They ran good from what I hear, the power was about the same per amount of displacement as a 470 horsepower 12.7.
I never drove one on the road, but I did ride around with a trainer for a couple of days, it ran really good, and it wasn't even a 400. I got the same truck with a 350?hp N-14, that was a dog.Last edited: Feb 27, 2009
The Challenger Thanks this. -
I have had two 11.1 engines. The one I turned to 400 ran very well. I would keep up with the big guys except on big hills. It was like any Detroit, a little slow off the line, but ran good once up to speed.
I turned mine to 400 HP at 2100. The horespower comes in around 1650 and starts dropping off around 1800 if I remember correctly. I set my injector response time to .75, which really made a huge difference, and also drilled out the fuel return to 89 thousants.
I was running 3.91 rears with 22.5 low pro tires, which did well, and I got good fuel mileage. The other truck had 4.10 rears, had much more pulling power, and still got good mileage.
If you are going to run in 55 MPH areas a lot I would strongly suggest the 4.11 rears when using 22.5 low pro tires, if not, you will be changing gears all the time. If you run 65 and under, the 4.11 is still the gear to go with using this engine.
The reason for the gearing is these engines lose a lot of torque under 1500 rpm.
A million miles or more should not be a problem with a 11.1.Last edited: Feb 27, 2009

To add to the above post.
Make sure the program is also a 1450 ft lb torque setting, as you need all the low end you can get. When I had mine done the did not offer a 1550 ft lb program, and may not now.
Several Detroit shops did not know there was a 400 HP program until I insisted they call the main office, so you may have to insist.
Don't let them tell you they can't set the torque to 1450 either. They can. If someone had the means, the torque could be set to most anything. The Challenger Thanks this.
