Is there a company that doesn't work you over 8-9 hours?

I'm thinking there's more to this story.

Working 14 hrs a day 70hrs a week is not a flex. I hate when people work their lives away and act like they should be praised for it. Since when is being a work mule something to be proud of? You can make just as much money working less hours by starting your own business.

If you are “running your own business” you will be, at least in the beginning, putting in A LOT of extra hours there too. And it won’t be sitting behind a wheel all day. And then there is a big risk both of liability and failure in doing so. Sure, lots of people have a successful personal business, but a lot more will fail, or even go bankrupt, in trying.

also, gotta love when 5 year old threads pop up… :)

I was self employed most if my life before I started driving. Several different businesses. A few successful..... a few not so successful. I used to tell people that I was self employed and usually worked half days. "Must be nice" was the usual reply. I didn't have the heart to explain to them that there are 24 hours in a day.

If you can manage to run recap hours you won't be working more than around 10 hours a day, most days.
8.75 on-duty hours a day to maintain running recaps.

I very seldom need to do a 34.

That has become my preferred way to run. The way my company plans our loads, coupled with running long haul, usually only 2 pickups/deliveries per week, it works out great. Normally have 12-14 hours off per day. Average about 3200-3300 paid miles per week.
