I agree, get your CDL and team it. You will make more money and have shared responsibilities. Plus the one not driving cooking, reading directions, checking QC, etc etc would come in handy a ton. Or tell her to pay you for the work you do and just deposit in ya'lls shared account. (sorry my sense of humor is pretty bad but it made me laugh).

Maybe up there you can. Down here you can't. It will get both you and the real driver that allows you to drive in "deep doo-doo." You have to at least have passed the written tests and have a learner's permit. And then of course, there is the matter of the owner of the truck. What are THEY going to say about it????????

OK, since it is so obvious that the logical way to go, is for YOU to get a CDL as well, I am sure you have already thought of that, and for what ever reason, ruled it out. But there are things you can do that would help her. For one thing, just "being there," could be a big help to her, (as long as she wants you there.)

Having someone to spend the time with when you are on the road could be a God send, or it could be pure hell. It just depends on your relationship.

It can be nice to have a navigator. It can be nice to have somebody to do the grunt labor stuff that goes along with driving.

But, keep in mind that if she is working for a company, they will have to approve you as a ride a long. If she is an owner/operator, she will need to have you covered by her insurance.

As far as you making money while doing this, I have no ideas. Maybe you could pick up money "lumping" for her on occasion. I don't know.

What I do know, is that you need to have a long straight talk with your lady and find out what SHE is looking for. Then make your decision.

Not the way I read it.

But permit was clearly in my post.

You would be surprised at the number of tickets issued for driving a vehicle where a CDL is required with just a regular license.

Not to those of us in the states it isn't. And the OP has clearly shown in his profile that he is from the states, not Canada. Unless they moved Colorado Springs Colorado when I wasn't looking. . .

To actually answer the o/p question - no.. most shippers and receiver don't want rider out of the truck and some won't let you on the property. My company makes riders sign a form which forbid riders from doing what you are asking.. you are a liabilty and not covered by insurance to be 'working'

    Get your CDL and team..

Are you disabled perhaps? What is the reason you can not acquire a CDL and join her in the driving duties?

That is good for Canada; however, the original poster lives in the US and we require a CDL Permit..
