Is there a scientific chart showing how much fuel you save by going slower?

    mpg is a near by game between dif trucks

    1. hp.
    2. engine
    3. transmission
    4. drivetrain/ends
    5. trailer


    a big point is speed but the 2. is the grap between the cape and the trailer (reefer/Van)
    you can get the same good mpg with 65mph as with 55mp on the same trailer but one time the 5wheel is in the front hole one time is in the last hole.

    the top one is a "normal" one with a big grap (last hole) the 2. like one in the 1 hole.
    there is a small differences between a reefer and a dry van.

    BUT easy bigger grap bigger speed bigger $$ on fuel you have to spent.

    your think is ONLY math and thats fare away from the reality!
    it will only work if you run 100% flat open area with no hills towns etc! .

    my old truck in Europe was cut down from 92km/h to 82km/h ... by the end of the day i maybe lost 5min. but it goes from close to 40l/1ookm down to 33l/1ookm

    looks good on paper.
    I've done it running cross country.
    same route as another driver,NC to Reno. at end of year made more money. even when he made a little on fuel bonus.
    I ran the speed limit,more or less.

    In reality, aerodynamics will never make someone more competitive to those with classic trucks with access to better freight rates or even close.

    A fully paid of truck getting 5mpg, snagging $2+/mile will yield more profit compared to a late model getting 7.5mpg, snagging $1.10/mile....ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL.

    Also, aerodynamic stuff only makes sense on a wide fleet application i.e. Mega's, since they already racing to the bottom in deeply discounted rates anyway. They will try the hardest to cut costs, be it side skirts, cheaper drivers, extended oil maintenance intervals etc

    The side skirts, when they were first installed I think the cost was about 2.5k. I am not even sure if that was returned by alleged improved fuel mileage after over 2 years. I did not notice any change to mpg after the were mounted on the trailer. IThe side skirts, rear trailer fairings, air tabs, Turbo 3000, super singles or whatever super innovations, may work in labs and in academical presentations, bet they do have this snake oil scent.

    it make sense for small o/o more ... if you save 6Ltr/1ookm its 60/1000
    by 16000km its 960Ltr >> 260Gal thats 650usd on fuel / month... or 7800usd/year

    6lrt less is ca 1.04mil more by the gal.

    Anything is possible in theory...

    Let me ask: if these additional stuff really helped, then why don't the manufacturers just add them str8 from factory and then tout to the world how efficient their trucks are?

    It's like kids adding big can exhausts for more HP in their Honda Civics, yet I dont see Porshe GT2/Nissan GTR with similar loud/annoying add ons.
