We run dry van, not reefer just in case anyone wants to give that optionMy question is basically this, I have a crappy coleman plug in the lighter cooler which bearly keeps stuff even cold, and would never work to house meat more then a day, but I am more interested in something along the lines of a freezer, small one, but that would plug into a lighter switch and keep things cold enough that I could keep meat frozen. Anything like that out there, or do I have an invention I need to come up with >.>
I want to pack along a small grill and a few packages of meat (say a weeks worth) so I can stop single handedly funding the truck stop restaurants...
Is there a truck FREEZER?

I've got a regular fridge, costly but will freeze the whole thing if you turn it down low enough.
Cost is close to $500 and requires more current than a simple lighter plug is wired for. -
Which is why I went the "inverter and $80 fridge from Walmart" route (which, of course, has a freezer section in it).
(My Scottish and Jewish ancestors would be proud)

While I've never used one (I'm trying to find trucker reviews of them), Engel makes a 12 volt refrigerator/freezer. They seem to start at around $400 and will only work as either a fridge or a freezer, not both.
RBPC Thanks this. -
i,ve got an engel 45qt and love it. have let it run 5 days without starting the truck and did not seem to effect starting the truck at all. i keep it set on the cooldest setting and it keeps everything frozen. very expensive but worth it for me. it is also very quite, i can bearly hear it at all when its running.
Eric the Red and RBPC Thank this. -
12v yes, RV style.
I have an inverter big enough to run a fridge and every thing else. Reason I went with the expensive one is that there was an OEM spot just right in my truck for it to fit. Had I gone with the small 110v fridge it would have taken a lot more room in my truck. -
I use a small black and decker cooler and it freezes stuff in the front of it, and its only 35 bucks, a little small but if you got two of em you'd be set.

WOW, I've tried probably 4 different brands and none of them worked for freezing. Barely cool, this was all cig lighter plug in types. After I got the real thing I never had any problems. I went from spending an easy $100 if not more a week to eat TS junk food to that same $100 lasting me 2 weeks if not a wee bit longer.
2.5 months my expensive one was paid for.RBPC Thanks this. -
i have an inverter in my truck powers computer microwave ect. and i went to Best Buy and bought a small office/dorm refrigerator has a small freezer in it i could have gotten on with a true freezer but wanted fridge space more and i also spent the extra for the extended in store warranty

I just have a cgrt lighter plug cooler also.If I had a freezer I would definitly stock those freezer pops that walmart sells for two big bags for 5.00.When I am home,I have two at a time to cool off on a hot day. They are habit forming.or sure.
