IMO, UPS !!!! Work the docks, work the docks, work the docks, get on board, WORK THE DOCKS, your young and have lots of time. If you go through there process of standing in line, NO SCREW UP`s be there every time they need you. Get the job running for them, Then go out and buy yourself the $500,000 HOME.

Yeah...Or buy a $50,000 home, pay it off as soon as possible, retire at age 50 and never have to worry about money. (Thats my plan....So far so good)

I have MANY friends that work at UPS, all just about retired, and Many Retired. All have High dollar homes and The toys, especially, constantly, have too have the high dollar Pick up trucks.:biggrin_2559: UPS in not a job for everyone, You have to work at it, screw up, and there constantly in your face, and sooner or later out the door. Our Son-in-Law, His uncles, 2 of them, and let me say this again, 2 of them, 2 RETIRED NAVY SEALS. He also has 1 cousin still active. Found out the one still active, Is part of Navy Seal Team 6. Another job, NOT for eveyone. Trucking is what you make of it. You must maintain a PREFECT driving record.

I had to come back and add more to my post. My son-in-laws uncles- 2 are uncles and the one active is his cousin. Funny, I talked one time to one of his uncles, and
they wont tell most people about ANYTHING what happen in there lives as Navy Seals. I have MANY, MANY friends that dont talk to people about there time in VietNam.

Having toys is one thing, going overboard is another. We have a driver that has a (100% not exaggerating here, he has told me this himself) $3,000/month mortgage, has right at $1,000/month in car payments, has a heated pool, and just bought a $44k boat.

He is that guy begging to work 60 hours a week every week because he has to! His wife makes around $75k, and he probably makes around $85k....But still! He will be in debt for the rest of his life.

Me personally, thats not my lifestyle. Im not perfect by any means, I have toys, but I dont go overboard. I had a Harley I paid $8k for, sold it, and am looking at buying an old lifted Ford 4x4.....But I drive a cheap, fuel efficient car.

My weakness is guns. I could blow a weeks pay on guns and ammo if I wanted to!:biggrin_25513: I dont, but I could lol.

I learned a while ago to plan for the worst of times, even when things are good. Over the past 12-13 years I was making #### good money, but then I switched positions at work, went to the bottom of the seniority list and now am not working very much. But Ive got that reserve money, so I dont have to worry about it too much.

    "Debt is normal....Be weird!"

I had to edit my post above, about my Son-in-laws 2 uncles, retired Navy Seals, and his cousin is still active, he mentioned this to me last summer, about his cousin still an active Navy Seal. I am amazed at this families history being Navy Seals.

The guys I know at UPS, make $100k and more. My wife and I have done all the above, and live pretty good. Paid the house off last year, paid $42K for my 230 Colbalt. Buying all the above on a income of $150K should not be a problem. My wife is what she calls, Frugal, at how we spend our money. The stock market, last year, we lost probably $200K. You have to set priorities in your life. At a young age, MAKE as much money as you can, later on, retire, and enjoy life.

I work for UPS Freight, we make $7 less an hour then 7 cents less per mile than UPS Ground feeder drivers. We are paid well, but those guys really clean up. At the end of our contract in July of next year, we are at just over 66cpm, and $26.15/hr.

I was making very good money up until recently. Did over $80k the last few years running linehaul, and could have made around $95k if I really tried.

When I get to working again everyday I should be right around $80k again.

Ill have 30 years in at age 49. Hoping to retire by 55 and have the house paid off within the next 4-5years.

UPS Ground feeder drivers who are at top pay make 71cpm right now! #### good money.

The worst thing about working over there, is it generally takes a long time to even see the inside of a truck. And their part timers dont make anything over there. We hire pretty much all of our drivers right off the street.

Harvey Wallbanger , I remember when you guys were Overnight, and remember a few years ago, the guys in Indianapolis are the ones that got the Teamsters on board. Thinking about how many years ago, I knew a few guys from Overnight, I would see everyday at some of our stops, I would always talk with them. I almost applied at Overnight in the mid 80`s. UPS/Freight is still a Very good company to work for. There pay is still above average. I am almost positive, Fed/Ex is no where near UPS/Freight scale. Fed/Ex I believe is a few dollars short. That sounded funny.

Im out of Indianapolis. I was around for all that. Im a strike baby. I got hired during the big strike of 1997-2000. A dozen or so guys stayed on strike for the whole 3 years.

It was definitely a whole different company when it was Overnite. Better in alot of ways, actually. But in the long run, Im glad UPS bought us. I think it promises a more stable future. UPS probably wont let this company fail.

I actually talked to a Fedex Freight driver (they merged with Fedex National, I dont know what they are called now), but I talked to one the other day and he said they are at $22.50/hr. I believe they get overtime after 8 hours also. We just hit $25.25/hr on January 1st.

The way it is at UPS, and why you dont see the inside of a truck for a long time is retirement, when a driver retires or gets fired, then the next one in line steps up. But in the long process of getting into that truck, you will learn the way management wants you to become a UPS driver. They will drill into you the rules of becoming a UPS driver. The waiting period is long. But if ANYONE IS A NEWBIE and wants a retirement job, and thinks they have what it takes, and willing to put in the time, this is the ULTIMATE Trucking job.

IMO, I would want to make as much money as possible at a young age. OH, thats right, HOME EVERY NIGHT.
