Don't get me wrong...I love the looks of a Pete or a KW.

I just don't fit into one very well.

You are so right about youngsters and having to drive a Pete...I've even seen 2 drivers being offered their trucks at one of the old companies I drove for...one a Pete, one a Freightliner. These 2 almost went to "fist city" over who was going to get the Pete.

why does a semi steering wheel need to be larger than a four wheeler's? with the power assist, it should be like a corvette or something......

I guess I was lucky to get into a Kenworth W900B within months. Loved that truck, too.

Man, You must be a big guy...

I'm 6'2" and weigh abouy 295 and I fit in my W900L with room to spare! I don't fit as well in the Pete 'cause for some reason there's just no room for my left foot to get comfortable and I always wind up with a cramped left leg.
The guy that said he'd rather have a Columbia than a Pete or KW has probably never driven one of those peices of plastic junk that was more than a year or two old...If you had you would know that the reason they have no resale value is that they start to disintegrate after a year or two and that they were designed as "throw away" fleet trucks.
My W9 is 9 years old and has 1.4 million miles on it and is a tight and solid as the day it came from the factory! Find a Century or Columbia with half that mileage on it that is still on the road and I'll show you a piece of junk that is falling apart and has duct tape and bungees holding everything together.

    txviking Thanks this.

I like the Freightliner Columbia's I'm a noob but I feel they are nice. The pete's are VERY tight fitting for a big guy around 200 to 250 from what I've heard from a guy who went with TMC

Im 6'5" 260lbs and never had aproblem with room in a 379 when I use to run them.It is real simple you un bolt the seat and move it as far back as it could go and then I could strech both my legs out and be comfy.

Same with the classic xl I own now I took the cabinet out behind the driver seat and moved the whole seat back about 3 inches and used a Bostrom wide ride low ride seat for a pete.Pleanty of room for getting real comfy.Only thing is when I turn my head to the left to look out the window im staring at a wall.

I've never driven a pete, but you guy's say they are harder to drive? I've only driven Sterling and Mack straight trucks. The reason I ask this is because I start school to get my class A liscense here in 2 weeks and the school im going to only has 379's.

I wish i had a nice truck when i got my first job. Driving a 1972 kw cabover in 1977 was not a ride i care to repete. It was a 10 speed no frills 290 horse. Heck the biggest engine i drove was a big cam 400 in a 1981 kw cabover. If you're going to look for the nice ones, i say shop around, but don't get your hopes up or you will be disapointed.

Most new drivers tear things up till they get the feel of things. Maybe a nice sloped hood would be better.... sure you want that much hood out there?:biggrin_25523:
