With cell phones and everything else, is the CB on it's way out or is it still the best to have in a pinch?

I might as well have been without one in my last year of driving. Between the satellite radio I want to listen to, and all the BS on the CB I don't want to listen to, the CB remained in the off position unless the guard shack insisted on using it to call my turn to load or unload.

Mine shorted out a few months ago and I haven't been in a big hurry to replace it.

I used to run a shuttle to Chicago and back each day. Slip seated. No CB in the truck.

They are a tool of the trade. Problem is most mechanics don't have that wrench in the box. Does real good to have it turned off. You can tell the ones that don't have it on. They roll up to a traffic jam and ask why aren't we moving? Well; if you had your cb on you would have known to get off at the last exit. Fatality wreck. You will be sitting there a few hours.:biggrin_2556: Having a cb on has no doubt saved me from getting in a bad wreck on occasion. Blind curve and big truck broke down on highway. I knew ahead of time to get in the hammer so I would not rear end him. I squelch mine, but I keep it on.

I have mine on in the back ground, I can tell by the inflection in voice when I need to listen, but at the same time ignore the crap that is on it. I use a cheap Cobra right now, but I am going to take my old Crystal one and get it tuned and start using it. Better range.

Slip seated for the last 2 years, 1/3 city 2/3 interstate. Have not missed it. Would piss me off even more rolling into something and no one said anything about it. I drove a truck one night with one in it and it confirmed my belief that they have become useless. When truck went to the shop the driver took it out and left it out, I guess he agrees, Will ask him sometime,

Always ran with mine on, it save my tail once in PA running west and heard someone say hey westbound back down your at a stop around the next corner. I started backing down threw the 4 ways on and watched a guy behind me move left lane an hammer on it then watched him lock em up and watched his trailer come into my lane in front of me cause it was sliding. Also a few receivers an shippers tell you when you are loaded or unloaded via cb. I would never drive otr without a cb.
