I'd say the guys that are saying a CB is a toy and is not good for anything haven't ever had to use one for what they are actually ment to be used for or actually needed one in a bind or emergency! Most new guys today buy them to irritate and aggitate. They play games on them and don't have any common sense never mind courtesy! A CB can save a life, It can alert you to a stalled out car in the road over the next overpass.. or a jacknifed big rig in a snowstorm... One that just happened.. So, YOU can get stopped before you hit it and become part of the accident... It can alert you to a DWI/ DUI driver comming up fast behind you... so you can take evasive action.. I've been unable to call for help on my cell, I used my CB and got someone to call 911 and get a firetruck to a vehical accident not 2 years ago...

Shall I continue?? BUT, there are SAD stories too... I saw a Swift plow through a livestock trailer in WY that jack knived in the road (winter icey road) everyone was on the CB yelling... Swifty... never slowed down... never even hit the brakes... guess he didn't have a CB... or have it on?? Came up on the accident and he was going too fast to do anything but to say OH S*&**.. and hang on.. There's a bunch of BS and we need to clean up OUR own act ourselves.. no one else is going to police the airways or do it for us. We need to be professionals and don't be afraid to call in on stupidity when and where we see it even on "fello drivers".. IMHO..

Yep, another time the cb saved me from wrecking was in WI during a snow storm. Heard on the radio that a driver just jack knifed in the ditch a few miles ahead of me, so I slowed from 45 to 25. Got to where the truck was at, wasnt on the throttle or brakes, looked in my mirror and my trailer was all the way in the left lane almost sideways, pushed the clutch in and she straightened right out. Now had I not had my cb on and heard about the jack knife and been going 45 still I probably would have jack knifed it to.

I have one on my slip-seat box and generally keep it on our company channel. I run 19 at times and that reminds me how much I detest OTR drivers when I go past a truck stop. I try to keep drivers posted on 19, but I normally get so disgusted I only talk to other LTL drivers and let them know what's up on the various company channels.. Mind you I'm on I95 all night - I do flip to 19 when I get in the middle lane to pass and another truck is 6" off my back box. I like to hear what is said when I slow down and keep them stuck behind me..lol..

I bought my first CB off of ebay for $15 and free shipping. It wasn't much, but came to me peaked and tuned and everyone said it sounded great. It lasted almost two years...

I got the radio I have now for free from my Pilot fuel points. Nothing fancy, but it also has eight NOAA weather band channels. Nice if you are running in the tornado/thunderstorm zones.

I keep my volume down low, but just up enough to hear if someone starts saying, "Hill Brothers, do you have it on?" I've been advised of burnt out tail lights, brake lights, etc., approaching a scale. Some drivers out here still try...

I still do the same, but nine times out of ten, the driver doesn't answer. Saw a guy going highway speed down the road with a flat tire that was begining to smoke! I wasn't the only one trying to raise him. I pulled up next to him and started waving the mic frantically at him, he just waved back and went back to looking down the road. I left him to his own devices and in my dust.

My first CB was a 23 channel GE. I bought it from the GE factory as a refurb. It must have been peaked and tuned because that radio could get out to ridiculous distances .My current CB is a Uniden that can't get out across to the other side of the highway, the price was right though---free. Still wish that I kept the 23.I'm saving up my Ambest points to get a Cobra.
