Seems as though you at least understand that you need to pay your dues starting out getting experience. Your on the right track considering car hauling or hazmat. I would say the answer to your question is yes you can earn a good living if you're willing to work a lot of hours. I thought it was going to be another one of these "i have no experience but want to buy 5 trucks and hire drivers" threads.

if you're netting over $1k/week you're grossing 1400 or more, which is easily 70k/year - only working 40 hours with im assuming a 9-5 position.

why on earth would you spend 2-4 years in trucking hell to make the same or slightly more, sleep in a truck, maybe be home weekly and double your hourly investment each week?

just curious. LTL linehaul prob has the best hourly rate outside of an o/o. most are paid mileage and DH.

most decent jobs require a clean record with no accidents or tickets, so keep it clean and it shouldnt b a problem, thats the hard part tho, trying to keep your record clean while working for some of these starter companies that will have you frusterated with so much nonsense your head will spin. if you get a ticket get a lawyer, even if it costs you 3k, if you end up with a better paying job you will make it back. i believe thats the best advice for any new driver, keep your record clean because thats what will make you money or lose you money. and as far as what ive researched if your lookn for a number 1500-2000 seems about the most as a company driver depending on where you live and how you run. unless someone else has anything better they can offer

The trucking industry is full of job hoppers me included and its also inconsistent in miles and very unpredictable. You have a good job you should stay where you're at.
