To tell you a background of my situation; I am 24 been laid off for 2 months. Ineligible for unemployment and can't get a job. Decided on trucking and did several days of research on where to go to get my cdl. Millis was the place that seemed the best for me. I applied to attend Millis Training Institute in Trenton, OH. This was the slowest process ever.
I got a call from Alice with Millis and she wanted to verify my employment. I told her I was unemployed and she said she just needed my employment background check. Sent in my W2's. Called in later to make sure she received them and she told me my application was denied.
So here I am with absolutely close to no money, bills to pay, and am running out of time. I do not really want to move back in with my parents and start all over with my life.So my question is what company sponsored training companies are easy to get into but are decent? Independent truck driving school is not an option. Has to be company sponsored. Who is decent and somewhat easy to get into?
Is there hope?

Go to your unemployment office and check into the W.I.A. program .
They may pay for school at a local college. -
If it helps, before I started at USA (wouldn't do that if I were you) I applied to Millis and was denied. I was even denied from Roehl but that was because of an accident i had 2 years prior.
Extra info... You'll be looking at 2-4 weeks (non-paid) company "sponsored" training. You will then hopefully get right into some OTR (paid) training. Most companies I've looked into get paid weekly. Some hold checks one week and some hold two weeks. So no matter what you are still looking at least one full month of not being paid from the looks of it. -
It will be tough waiting a month before any pay but I know once I get in and start the OTR I can start getting myself back on solid ground. Do you know where USA Truck runs or if there is a particular region or route? I don't know if me being close to the terminal or dropyard would give me a better chance in getting in or not. I don't know many companies that offer sponsored training but would like to find one that is somewhat decent that isn't too hard to get in. -
About USA requirements... Basically if USA Truck declines you, you might want to find another career! haha.
I'm not sure how their routes are anymore, they were changing things around when I left. I can say the pay is crap though. The terminal there in Vandalia is one place they hold orientation. When I worked for USA I ran 46 of the lower 48, did a lot of east coast but also had a fair share of the south as well. Ran West Coast for a little while at the beginning of 2011.
The student I trained a couple weeks ago worked for Roehl. I don't believe he had anything bad to say about them, but he didn't want to be OTR anymore so he started running local for another company. -

No, trucking is NOT what you really want to do, you "thought of" trucking after you exhausted all other avenues, and think that now trucking is going to be your life line. Until you fess up as to the lay off or firing, you will continue to be denied employment. If you admit to being fired and give the EXACT REASON why, THEN the companies MAY work with you. But right now, you got the cards stacked up against you.nicholas_jordan Thanks this.
