It's the ladder strength and the guide wire strength between the poles where alot of taps are located. A big guy up on a wire caught in some wind can easily put a few hundred more pounds against that wire, and also the ladder. Therefore, you have limits. (I may or may not have done alot of installs at one time or another)

I'm with Maverick and their were a couple of guys that looked like they were over 300 pounds in orientation. No idea how they are doing now but they made it fine through orientation. I'd go for it. I was 215 myself when starting. 3 months in, I'm down to 195. You will lose weight and that is not a bad thing. Good for your health.

My buddy is about the same as you; 300 lbs. 6'4" and climbs on top of tankers and walks around on top as good as anyone. You shouldn't have any problems with flatbeds. Falcon Transport has lots of freight in Michigan.

I would think a guy your size would be the norm and not the exception. As long as you are not afraid of heights tarping a lumber load and such you will be just fine. Best wishes!

Yup. I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm 6'4" and 300 lbs. Same deal though...no one would look at me and say "yeah...he weighs 300 lbs."

OP...I can't say that I've had anyone say anything about my size (so far). One of the reasons I'd like to do flatbeds is hat I figure I'll burn a few extra calories here and there (I'm coming from a desk job).

Throwing tarps will help you to get in shape. The feds have been putting more pressure on drivers and carriers about sleep apnea. They sometimes require the test if your BMI is over a certain point. You could check your BMI if you do a google and see where you stand. There are a number of drivers around who are over 400 pounds and under 6' tall. I would continue to apply with carriers. In the mean time, you could work on getting your weight down. If that is the problem and you can drop 20 or so pounds, it might help you.

I watched a really big guy tarp a load. He laid the tarp down next to the trailer spread out. Tied 3 ropes to tarp and threw over load then pulled the tarp over. It worked!

You will be fine. We have more than a few guys bigger than you. Besides you will have no problem getting your straps and chains tight. hahaha Leavitts freight service in Springfield Oregon. Check it out. I "think" we are increasing the trucks out that way. I can say they are a good company to work for. They treat us pretty good. I hear a lot of stories about various trucking companies and am glad I am here.

i know a few guys your size been pullin a skateboard for years. No big deal.

There's this big hype about sleep studies for us more larger fellows. At my DOT physical i passed the doctors sleep test. its just a little questionnaire. he looked in my throat and asked my questions. Company said bs and made me do another DOT physical at their selected ##*hat in a lab coat. That guy said the same thing and they still ordered a sleep study. took it and passed with flying colors, as in i don't have sleep apnea. They even mailed me a card saying i dont have it. Some companies are cool either which way. I know a guy that had to get the cpap machine and he uses it and they kept him and blah blah blah. I've also heard it the other way where they kick you to the curb because you're a risk.

Now get out there and get a job! :)
