Chinatown mentioned some companies having their own CDL schools. That can be an option worth considering, but to be the devil's advocate here, what happens if you don't finish their school?
When my wife and I went to get our CDLs, we went to a private school and got student loans to cover the cost. It was a fortune even back then! But these were paid off completely in 1.5 years. That then gave us the option to look around at other companies more to our liking without having loans dangling over our head.
If you go to the company school, they'll have you by the short hairs if you know what I mean. You owe them and that could be a mandatory time that you MUST work with them in order to not have to repay the cost of schooling. 1 year seems to be common from what I've seen. A private school may be more expensive, but I'd be careful about having a huge weight hanging over my head that if I don't complete the terms of the school's contract, then I owe the full amount of the tuition.
Your CDL belongs to you! Knowing that there are unscrupulous companies out there who will bend you over a pine rail and not use any Vaseline doesn't appeal to me at all. Just be careful with what you choose to do.
is this a good career Choice?
