Since you're having problems due to the gap in driving, try this one.
It's ok when you go solo.
Has OTR and a local job in Denver. Yes, I'd work there if I had little experience and was offered a solo driving position.

KLLM might hire you and put you through a Refresher Course. If you're interested be sure to ask about the Refresher Course.
    KLM owns FFE.

I would not send anyone into that situation. Your in Denver there's lots of companies that will hire you. To the poster read the red highlights above.

Give it a shot. Stick it out for seven (7) months then you'll have a year experience

They didn’t tell me they were having problems getting loads. That doesn’t seem to be their problem at all. My guess is it’s a matter of how low the loads are being paid today, not a problem getting actual loads. This is just the reality of loads in general right now. They do keep their current drivers busy from what they shared with me.

As for the training…I don’t need to be trained. I know how to drive, I am a good and safe driver, and I have done a ton of work educating myself in trucking in general. I wouldn’t make these comments if it isn’t true. I probably also shouldn’t have used the word “training” as much as I meant that I don’t want to be cooped up with another person in a cab versus being trained. I been thoroughly trained and both my last jobs cut me loose early from training because I didn’t need to be trained any further. Are there things I can still learn? Sure. But it’s just the reality of things.

Everything else you shared was good though. Thank you.

You're in Denver, if Magnum still hires newbies, I'd go there. 45 cpm is not bad for a rookie. If you don't have any other options, I'd take the offer you have. I do agree it's not the best job offer, but if you can't get on elsewhere, then take the offer you posted.

You definitely don't have to stay at truckstops all the time while OTR. They're unavoidable for fuel and showers, but as far as parking for breaks I go to rest stops more often than not. There are times I go to fuel at a truckstop that is packed full and there's a wide open rest stop a few miles away. There are also certain Walmarts (I confirm with the manager to be sure) and other stores that allow parking. If you're going reefer there are a fair number of customers that have overnight parking. There are also outside the box locations like casinos that often have truck parking.

Finally, this board has been a great resource for when I'm going to an unfamiliar area and I know I'll be arriving late. A lot of experience in here and usually people will fire back with multiple options.

First they have problems getting good paying loads probably because they did not spend the time to secure the customer base, but instead depended on others, such as brokers. If your going to be in business you have to secure your own accounts, this does not mean you'll never take broker loads, but primarily your loads would come direct from your accounts.

They do not have benefits for there drivers because they believe drivers are a dime a dozen, you don't want to work for someone like that.

The last thing is, you don't know, what you don't know, that's why you need a good trainer to teach the things you don't know. I was fortunate to have been trained by my Dad Started in high school unloading and loading trailers for him, ended up driving with him a good number of years. I trained my son who has been on his own driving for about 10 years now. He still calls with occasional questions, could be about how to load or secure something or even a HOS question. Yes you need a mentor, someone you can call even after your no longer in there truck.

Try calling GF La Caeyse in Grinnell IA, they may give you a shot. I dont know, but you have to try. The other place go hit up the ready mix plants, they hire a lot of bottom dump for sand and rock. You just never know

I did ask them about if they had their own customer base and they said they were 100% load boards. I was kind of surprised about this since they were in business for 10+ years and a 3 man office operation, but they said they don’t run enough trucks to be available for customers on a regular basis and why they use brokers, but said they have a very good relationship with the brokers they do use and don’t have to go for bottom dollar loads and often get a little more from the brokers they do use because they been working with them so long and are trusted.
