indiana is starting to do this at busy intersections. no left turn. go straight through the intersection to a roundabout or designated u-turn, come back to the big intersection and then make a right turn.

they are also doing the crossover intersections near busy interstates. despite being in use for 3 years, the one nearest me is generating a 50% ratio of wrong way drivers. i don't go that way much, but half the time i do i meet another car head on in my lane. *actual stats, ive used that on-ramp 4 times and had to avoid a head on collision twice.

The freeways in downtown Detroit are the worst with the on ramps. No merge areas at all. I used to deliver a lot to Wolverine packing and the market area around it a lot...definitely don't miss that place.

Those flyover ramps cause trouble every years with just a little bit of snow/ice. Maybe they should have been designed with heaters in the road.
And I noticed that they are re-doing the interchange in Dallas/Garland at I30/I 635 and they are building the new flyover ramps even higher. WTF!

Is that anything like this one I encounter in my daily travels?

Have one not far from the house. Gets 2 or 3 cattle trucks a year. Travel trailers and boats are also known to go over. The drunks just bash into the concrete wall.

Recently a young woman was killed on those flyovers. One of the few people this country produces that's still interested in driving and being independent.

She was probably screwing around on her cell phone. But she broke through the barriers on the sides and fell to her death after taking that ramp way too fast. That was some where near Austin.

It was also near Austin I saw a body on the road before emergency personnel could cover it.

Use caution when driving through Austin. We don't have the first clue about getting down the road safely.

Unfortunately it is not just Austin.

It is one of the reasons I look forward to self driving cars for the general population. Unfortunately viable self driving cars will most likely not arrive in my lifetime.

It won't happen until we see quantum computing. We can get close to it, and self driving vehicles are being tested. But there's an extraordinary amount of data that needs to be crunched every millisecond.

5G wireless is a profound breakthrough that will help with that. But the infrastructure isn't built out yet. There are still a lot of issues.

Its definitely coming. But it's not coming soon.
