Just bought this truck have put about 9k miles on it, when pulling hills it makes this awful noise. Not sure if it's normal. I'm used to running cats and detroit 60. Power seems fine, fuel economy seems fine but it shakes pretty bad and seems to be a shake coming from the engine. It's still under cummins factory warranty, wanna know if I should get this checked out or if these units just run like this. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hard to tell if there's an odd sound from the video but I will say this.. like you I came from detroits and cats and only drove a cummins first when I bought my pete in 2016, they do sound like they could blow apart at any minute, you just sort of get used to it. Drive it like you stole it for quite some time when it's new, mine had a noticeable shift when it finally 'broke in', or maybe loosened up is a better term, somewhere around 150,000 km. It has about 815,000 km now and burns very little oil between changes maybe half a gallon.

Mine does it too in fact every isx I've ever driven does it. "Characteristic of a cummins" they say.... I can't wrap my head around that.

Sounds like a bag of hammers, at idle the mirrors shake bad you can’t even see out of them. I’d still trade my last x15 for this new paccar I have now. Put 630k on the x15 and never once added oil between changes and we were doing 40k mile intervals.

Not normal, fix is replace all injectors and dpf. I know of a guy that got it “fixed” and the engine doesn’t make that sound anymore. Emissions is hard on the engine.

Diesel Dave and little cat 500 Thank this.
