I own my a truck out right I own a flat bed out right. I don't drive the truck I pay a driver 22% of the load. I have my own authority to run in AR,TN,MS,AL,TX,LA ,OK,MO. Im talking with 2 lumber companies about doing short runs most under 150 miles paying $350-$500 a run 2 a day driver home every night.
So on the low in $3500 a week
Driver pay -$770
Insurance $100 a week
Fuel $1300 a week 400 miles a day 5 days a week ( giving 100 miles of deadhead a day should be less)
_____________________________________________________________________________________
That leaves $1330 a week net profit to the truck
Dose this sound realistic I only have one truck may get more if this one works out. I do own a business where I have enough free time to find loads and do paper work make calls and not dependent on the income from the truck to make it day to day.
Is this a realistic business plan?

That sounds good, you will want to put in there down time expense for repairs Etc. If the truck is down very long that driver is going to walk as he makes his off the moving of the truck, I like the idea you 3 wives 2 dogs and 8 kids are not depending on the income of the truck!. Keep us posted.

Your numbers are off already, insurance is more than $100 a week. Also your talking about load boards that also cost money. When you say two loads or you talking about one outbound and one inbound load?
I'll say this if your talking about hauling lumber your in a not so good spot most big city's don't have any saw mills. If your doing none tarp loads with out waiting your talking hour load time two hour drive hour unload than head to your next pick-up that I'm sure you won't drop that same day so that puts you starting late the next day.
I get $400-$500 on 100 mile run and $600 on a 150 mile run, If I can't find a return I have enuf money I can head back if I have too -
How are you going to do runs under 150 miles and have less than 100 mile/day deadhead ?
-
My insurance is $2400 for 6 months I need to get workmans comp so I'm sure that number can double.its all no tarp lumber I'm in Arkansas we got a lot of wood
-
The truck should be loaded both ways the 100 miles is just room for error
dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
It sounds doable, figure the truck runs consistantly for 50 weeks a year, you could net around 40,000 for the year on one truck.
-
yah, if you can keep the truck loaded both ways without too much deadhead and around $3/mile, should be room to make some money.
-
I remember thinking I could make $50,000 a year profit per truck that's how I ended up with so many if anyone wants to buy some trucks and trailers I have some 4sale

Better get them listed in the classifieds.
