After reading a few posts...
Trucking schools who provide CDL training, are now also able to administer the actual state test to get a commercial drivers license? Is this true?
Whoa -- talk about conflict of interest! So, the very guys/gals who train you from day one, who you payed for CDL training, are also the ones responsible for passing you on the actual DMV test?
It didn't matter where I went to school -- the school had to schedule the actual CDL A licensing exam with the DMV, and the test was administered by DOT state police.
Is this correct?

I've actually heard this as well in some states where people can get certified to administer the DMV tests. I'm curious to hear more about this. Here in Wyoming, the DMV administers all tests including the driving test. No outside agencies. IMO that is the way it should be. Keeps schools from passing students based on the money they paid for the course.

The DMV would be a Charlie foxtrot trying to administer 60 CDL driving test a day for the driver mills.
What the heck are you thinking? State employees would be overwhelmed..the process would come to a stand still..
The state would have to hire more people, your taxes would go up to pay salaries, and trucking/training companies wouldn't be able to fill trucks.
Rates would go up because of driver shortages. Truck parking would become more available and the highways less congested.
Walmart wouldn't be able to fill their shelves!
Can you tell I'm bored waiting on my 34 hr restart to be over!U4EA Thanks this. -
You're absolutely right about the CDL mills though -- I never thought of that.

LOL! Great then we can have even more idiots than there already are on the road. Sounds logical to me. Then Frito-Lay can start issuing CDL's in the cracker jack boxes. "Look mommy I got a CDL as my surprise from the cracker jacks box!" Then we won't have to worry about the local DMV's being overly busy just the local Morgues. LOL!

This is nothing new,
they have been doing it for a long time........DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
My school i went to does that. Their certified testers that get tested themselves every year by the state of florida. I actually strongly believe the school i went to was no "CDL Mill". I still go to the school during open houses and talk with people thinking about going to the school.
They dont pass everyone. we had 23 people in our class, after testing, re-testing, and re-re-testing only 15 or so passed. The rest either gave up or flunked outU4EA Thanks this. -
most CDL mills have their own 3rd party testers...this isnt anything new

At the State Technical College where I took my training, the director of the program is also a 3rd party examiner for the Dept of Driver Services. He was allowed to conduct the first couple of weeks of classroom training, but once we went onto the range and on the road he wasn't allowed to have any (training) interaction with us. We trained with his other instructors and the first time he ever rode with any of us was the day we tested.
At least in my mind, that benefited all of us - we didn't go into testing with him having any preconceived notions that this guy sometimes grinds gears or this guy doesn't watch his mirrors enough - he was coming in "cold" so to speak. He takes his role as an examiner very seriously and is subjected to having the DDS show up at any time to ride along during an exam and watch him in action.
In addition, we had to sign a DDS form that said we understood that by having our test administered by a 3rd party, we were subject to having the DDS call us in for a re-exam at one of their facilities at any time during the first two years of our license. The system seems to work pretty well here in Georgia.
