Have any of you ever heard of or had experience with driving seasonal? As in run hard w/ minimal breaks for, lets just say 7-8 months and then take 4-5 months off. Was "dreaming" about leasing a truck onto a company and doing something like that. Thought it was a stupid idea, but I really don't see why it couldn't be done. I have no kids, no lady, minimal bills and I live cheap.

In todays economy though would this even be plausable?

Some drivers do just that. Live frugally, mostly in the truck, then take a few months off and kick back somewhere like the beaches of the Philippines where living is cheap, good beer, massage, betel nut, etc.

My wife keeps saying,"don't you think it's time we go back to the USA?"

    Woodys and mje Thank this.

You bet it is. I have met quite a few drivers who do just that. Trucks are paid for, store them during the winter months and move on to warmer climates.

    mje and Woodys Thank this.

If I did this there's no way I could get back in my truck after taking off for that long lol. Plus my truck sat for a month once and had a boat load of problems once I started running it everyday. Ya no. The little things that really annoy

Log haulers, ag haulers, dirt haulers all do a version of that here in California. You won't do it with a new truck, a big mortgage and a garage full of toys, but it can be done.

I'm told guys that haul tomatoes make a decent living as co. drivers, work 8-9 months a year.

Sounds like a plan to me.But in todays economy you really have to save and your company has to give to good consistant miles.

There are some carriers that you could lease on with where you could take longer stretches of time off. Or, you could get your own authority and then it is entirely up to you as to when and where you run and how much time you take off.
