My math comes up with .47 cents per mile

    Period Begin Date: 6/16/2014
    Period End Date: 6/22/2014
    Mileage Pay $528.92

Week 6/22/14 Ranked Miles Driven 9,200 (this is a cumulative number)
Week 6/15/14 Ranked Miles Driven 8,079

9,200 miles <minus> 8,079 miles = 1,121 miles driven during that pay period

Mileage Pay $528.92 divided by 1,121 miles driven = .47 cents per mile

Driver was dispatched 3 days and handled 2 loads.

Just stick with it and get your year in with Swift. Learn everything you can about driving, about the business, how to work efficiently, and above all keep a positive & professional attitude.

That's what I think... the first year is just to weed out the non-hackers.

Assuming the above chart is correct, Swift driver pay is on a sliding-scale based on the dispatched miles.

In this case the driver was dispatched for 3 days, handled 2 loads, and drove 1,121 miles. Since these were
relatively short runs the mileage pay was on the higher end of their sliding scale.

Based on my own recent research of the cents-per-mile pay for newbies at various trucking companies, Swift certainly seems to pay better than Celedon, Stevens, and some of the others.

Yes sir based on that they do. Im just wondering about the Ranking? Wonder if they just rank a certain percent of his miles or all of them? I came up with the 1121 from the total miles driven column, which is also cumulative though I know the sliding scale is set up the way you said it was, with the low miles paying more than the high miles.

The new CDL grads that plan well, don't have to pay dues. The ones that plan well make $55K - $60K their first 12 months as a solo driver. Mileage pay is just a portion of pay; assessorial pays add up to thousands a year.

For example, some new drivers posted they want tankers right out of school and the naysayers tell them, NO go with vans for a couple years first otherwise you could become a mushroom cloud over the highway. The new drivers that ignore this are the ones making around $50K - $60K their first 12 months solo. Those drivers get paid for everything they do; usually detention starts after 1 hr. Many of those companies pay for fueling, pre-trip, post-trip, layovers. Some get choice of $50.00 or hotel room for 34 hr. restarts.
Millis Transfer drivers average over $50K their first 12 months solo and they're dry van. Drivers in CDL school need to shop carefully for their first job unless pay isn't that high on the agenda. For some it's not that important; they just want out of the situation they were in before deciding on CDL school.

The Rank Miles and Total Driven Miles are both cumulative...and both added up to the 1,121 miles.

I don't know what the Ranked Miles are...perhaps the OP can find out and let us inquiring minds know?

    OK, gotcha.
Ranked Miles have to do with Swift's "Quarterly Performance Pay" bonus program.

Chinatown also raised an excellent point (as always) - Be sure to look into and understand Swift's "accessorial pay" so you can maximize your pay in every way possible.

(Otherwise your next profile photo will feature you only holding two 12 oz neer-beers.)

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Swift Transportation Company (NYSE:SWFT), recently announced their next step to becoming “Best in Class” by awarding its ranked company drivers with a new Quarterly Performance Pay bonus. This exciting new incentive program is designed to retain and reward drivers on their level of excellence. Swift company drivers are currently ranked based on their safety, service and productivity level. This new program begins on July 1, 2012 and bonuses will be paid at the end of each fiscal quarter to ranked drivers who are employed the entire quarter.
The new Quarterly Performance Pay is in addition to the current pay and motivates drivers to improve their ranking through focused attention to safety, on-time service and miles driven. The higher the driver’s rank, the higher the Quarterly Performance Pay will be. Based on the driver’s performance, they can earn up to six bonus cents per mile - if they have achieved superior performance for an extended period of time. The program is designed to reward driver performance that enables the Company to achieve its goals. The cost of the quarterly bonus is expected to be approximately one cent per company mile - without taking into consideration the positive impact from further improvement in productivity, customer service and safety.
“As you can see from this new plan, we are serious about retaining and rewarding the best drivers in America.” Richard Stocking, President & COO
