You can also leave an end of it loose and put the hook in a link a foot or two in. That way you got a two for one. You got some bare chain to snake in holes and if you need a hook its on there too. If that makes since. If you need a pic I can drag one out and take it tomorrow sometime. I learn’t that from an old H&H oil field rigger and pipe hauler.
Is this legal??

The old hand that showed me that used them by putting them through holes that were cut in the ends of skids to pull drilling equipment up on a float with a gin pole when I was around 8 years old. It was like magic to me. Lol!

Most of the machinery I haul is secured from the bottom with 95% of the gross weight above my securement. That's just the way it's engineered to be secured.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
The big diesel generator motors are like that too, but sitting a bit lower. You also have different options for securement on them, they don't tell you to do it "this way". Would you want to cross chains on the sides of the mounting base on one of those?D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Now I'm not a flatbedder just a farm boy who's hauled a wide range of stuff. I don't like cross strapping and especially at such a flat angle. You've got plenty of power to stop forward and backwards motion but there is little force actually holding that down to the deck. Which from what you guys are saying with this particular load is what the are after?
I just like to discuss and learn. I've hauled a ton of tractors on our step deck and if I had to cross chain for various reasons I like to keep the angle fairly step but not to much. To much one way or the other you either compromise horizontal or vertical movement of machine correct?
Just happened to see this video the other day and I definitely agree with most of it. Thoughts

On securement you have
What the customer requires
What the law requires
And some extra chains or straps put on for your peace of mind if possible.HoneyBadger67, D.Tibbitt, Nostalgic and 1 other person Thank this.
