    A lil driver backgorund to start as i am new here;

3 years ago I,unknowingly till after cash was paid, went to a terrible excuse of a cdl mill. In fact i got the pleasure of being in their second class. :biggrin_25524: We were taught by videos for the class time & just barely taught enough actual driving to pass the CDL A road test, just barely.

Despite all that i took to the trucks like a fish to water & excelled by not taking lunches in order to hone what skills i could on their "skid pad"(not even a smooth parking lot, like driving on a dirt road with all the pot holes) & studing my ### off. LOL i could & still can go thru a per-trip without a truck present :biggrin_2559:
Anyways, I got my CDL A in 4-08, by june I found none of the big carries, even the swifty ones, would touch me due to no work history, despite clean mvr & background. I get to orientation & no further.
I got lucky & found a good owner operator that hired me own as a team driver with him & after a year he leased a truck for me(not to me) to drive solo. He trained me on a 10sp freight liner then switched me to a ultrashift volo when i went solo.
I have always been paid on time, well and correctly with him. He always had my trips planned to stay within the HOS rules Yet i got hella miles; which after reading threads oon here dose not seem typical n the industry.?.?
Any-who he is retiring, he says in December 2012, Has ended the lease on the truck i was driving & is cutting his own miles a lil every month. Luckly i still am able to maintain some otr miles with him as his "part-time" team driver till he drives his last load. My miles have been cut in half as we are doing regional type runs now instead of cross country. I am grateful that he is letting me log enough miles to keep me going while i look for another company to drive for. We have become great friends over the years & though he dose not report to DAC he will verify my employment with no issues.

NOW ALL THAT WAS SAID TO ASK THIS :biggrin_25515:

I have put in for some small local companies, though i am hoping to find a big carrier that wants a otr driver that dosent need home time as i have no family & no kids & NO REASON not to be hitting the road as hard as i legally can. (THIS FORUM HAS BEEN A BIG HELP IN RESEARCH)

I am off this whole week! feels crazy to be off this long :biggrin_25518: But this morning My boss called to report one the local companies doing the worker experience thing & called him, & as he has been my only employer since '08 & only driving postion every should be easy :biggrin_25513:
Well he said everything seemed to be going fine till they asked him aboout the companies he pulled @ which point they was wanting to kno more then what seemed standard information to him like, settlement history, shipping lanes, ect. He said they seemed to be trying to find out more of his account(s) info then if i had been employed. He HAS went thru verification processes with former drives before with no issues.

IS THAT NORMAL,dose it sound normal MO for worker verifaction on the company i applied to??????????

WHAT IS NORMAL FOR THE BIG CARRIES?? Am i going to have a issue because he dosent report to DAC? What would the bigger carries req from a O/O as verification he employed me? I have read w2 & 1099s are not acepted as "proof of employment" by some companies. AGAIN, HE HAS NO BAD BLOOD BETWEEN US so verification on this part not really the fact that my old company screwed me, its wtf are the new companies actually gonna need for verification?

Any help by drivers & o/o is greatly appreciated :biggrin_25514:

oh, I kinda think it goes with out say but he has always driven under his own authority, & is the policy holder on insurance on his truck(s)........he gets loads from several dif companies & brokers & not just exclusive to one.....just in case that aides an answer to my questions

Too many people have friends that will vouch for their year or more experience. When they have zero.

So a short answer to your question would be , yes.

By asking the right questions, the company can verify that he actually pulled those accounts, and you were part of the deal.

well yeah i get that but shouldn't they be able to use his dot & mc # & do the same thing?

Hell he is willing to send them any paper work needed, as he is a meticulous record keeper

He not wanting to cause me problems @ all. But i doubt he is going to give them actual account info willingly , kinda like if some stranger asked you where you park your truck, only @ a bigger level

sounds like if you had put down the reason for quiting was him going out of business they might have seen that and very well might be unsing verifing your work history as a way to poach his clients...on the flip side it sounds like you had a very good experience with your current employer....good luck

I can give you a string of numbers.

Can you prove I never drove for those people? Can you prove I DID drive for them?

All it takes is ONE client to verify the guys operation. All it takes is one client to remember that he had another driver working with him.

Try NOT to read too much into the methods used to verify your experience. Especially since it is required by their insurance company....and the Fed.

You may still have to provide other proof....as in your W-2 and/or tax returns.

Yeah i wish he wasnt retiring. i did put on there he's retiring! lol what should i put....u cant really falsify an app i didn't think ?

And uh no i cant prove nothing from any of the numbers, but then again i don't work in a office & cant pull anyone elses mvr or background either lol. I was going by other posts i had read bout the MC & dot # & there use in the whole process, may have confussed all the recent reading though ;) Only numbers i like is ones i can cash lol.

My tax retruns i can provide as well as paystubs, i had read though that some companies don't accept those as proof of employment.

thx for all your guys help ;)

You don't have to put anything down as to why you left....because you haven't left yet. The larger companies will not get into his business like that. They will check his DOT and MC numbers, insurance history and generally leave it at that. They just want to know how long you were employed, by whom and would the employer hire you back. Legally, that's all they're entitled to.

You may not be happy with the larger companies, though. There is less freedom and more oversight than you are used to. Suggest a smaller operation that won't be busting your chops over every little thing.

    Good luck to you.

Listen to Injun on this you be better with a smaller outfit than a large one. Mine and your experience are very similar after my O/O mentor went out of bussiness I decided to look for local companies and paid off. I'm with a Regional 250 truck company wich I'm very happy with. No nonsense or political correctness when it comes to operation. I guess if your mentor is retiring it does't matter who finds out about info. You will be ok good luck.
