Is this the end for me in trucking?

I wasn't calling you "young". The sentiment that's coming across seems "young". This is writing and many things get lost in this mode of communication.

I wasn't accusing you of anything. You seem desperate to get out of trucking despite the success you're enjoying. When someone has success in an industry and subsequently talks about hanging it up, those who are still struggling will interpret that as "taking things for granted". No escaping that really. Also, the amount of effort put into something has nothing to do with whether it can be taken for granted.

The situation is more common than most think. I've spent over 20 years in two different fields. I love the work and that's why I do it. However, I've not only contemplated hanging it up, I've actually done it a few times and come back again.

There are those of us here who have taken a stab at ownership, for many years even, only to go back to company driving or another industry.

There are those of us here who have never wanted to own a truck specifically for some of the reasons you've mentioned.

We get it. And even if some of the advice or responses appear to be a bit off-center of capturing exactly where you're at or the kind of advice you need, I'm 100% sure none of it is meant to offend or minimize what you're up against.

As a fellow trucker, I'm pulling for you, even if that means leaving trucking behind. Lord knows, it's inspiring to see one get free every so often, instead of chewed up and spit out...

I had a brief foray into welding. I enjoy it but that smoke is nasty. Even with ventillation and respirators you still blow black out your nose at the end of the day.

That is why I don't care if my truck sells or not....it will be there just in case I let the mental illness known as sentimentality creep in someday.

And actually after running around getting parts and going to my mechanic and finding a new parking spot (current one is just getting packed!!) I am feeling a little better. Not better as in I want to stay in trucking but better as I may keep the truck.

    It is kinda irreplaceable.

Ah yes, good old "I'm The Only One That Matters" Clarkson.
I watched the episodes of his Farm senilities with the usual, as only the Clarkson can do, whinges and moans because A LOT OF HIS IDEAS failed, like the Farm to Public Store Idea.
At least he's still driving BIG machines, just not quickly.
    Thanks!!
