So, i'm moving to Florida in July and wont have a job when I get there. I've always thought about getting my license to drive big trucks. I've driven small truck (14 foot and box trucks).
I'm single, like to travel and be on the road, don't stress out in traffic...
Any advice? is there work to be found? Should I look for a school that has job placement or a local class and look for work on my own?
Also, any advice about any schools near Fort Lauderdale is appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
is this the right thing to do?

From reading this board for the past several months, I am under the impression that there aren't many companies that are hiring newbies in the FL area right now.
As for is there work to be found? I'm sure that most fast food joints are hiring.
Do yourself a favor and spend a lot of time reading the various threads here.
I wish I had done so prior to shelling out about $5K for CDL school last year. -

Haha, "rich t," that's funny!!! Sounds good right about now... Maybe the OP should look into an in-house school with a middle-of-the-road company like U.S. Xpress. I started with them (didn't go to the in-house school, just signed on after U.S.T.D.S.), and I've seen worse companies since then, as far as grinder mills go...

thanks for the feedback, I was asking specifically about trucking jobs, so not much hiring going on? Would it make sense to go through a company that has job placement? or is it just a waste of time getting my license down there?
