Also mileage is usually HHG zipcode to zip code.
Some of the zipcodes are almost as big as a US State.
Thus whatever pay miles a company says this load does, I add 20% ground miles. Then figure the time against the appt date and time given to see if it's doeable.
If not? I say no.
what do you mean no. Get going driver?
No, get me a new appt time no earlier than this date and time. The more we argue about this the more time we lose farting about.

And you wonder why I crossed swords so much with people who promised the truck to be somewhere that I now have to make good. No thanks.
Is this what Trucking has become??

Wouldn’t this setup work if the company is paying insurance, trailer repairs and such plus plates?
just wondering because I never have been able to grasp how Owner ops stay in business hauling 1.45 pm on terms like this. -

I was getting $1.40/all miles back in the mid 90s pulling tanks
D.Tibbitt and spyder7723 Thank this. -
Yep this is what it’s come to, just as predicted 40 yrs ago. It works out to around 25% more than.80 cpm, and 1.00 gal fuel, 35 yrs ago. Overall adjusted for inflation, less money. Competition has driven rates as low as they can possibly go. Now the Megas lobby against the Competition. Why is anyone surprised?

You want to make money in trucking, you need to specialize. Do what most wont or can't. Heavy Haul, Oversized, Haz-Mat, Teams, High Value, Dedicated to your own customer. You have to hustle and limit risk. You have to work and angle for every edge you can get. I get a kick out of people who think that trucking is some easy gig where you just sit in a truck and trust random people to handle your business. LOL. Most people quit within the first year because they were uneducated about the business to begin with. They learn how hard it is and leave. 1.45 ALL miles. Nope. No thanks. I appreciate them telling us that up front though. Saves the time in working there. As an O/O, those low ball offers come in all day, every day. You get used to saying "Thanks for the load offer, I'll let you know if I'm interested" because I'm not interested and good day to you.
ChromeNut, Midwest Trucker, Doealex and 1 other person Thank this. -
