Yep, thats it! Hit the nail right on the head!!!!!:biggrin_2552: Guess you didnt read the post a few up talking about how the tarps are TMC's and when they need repair/replace that cost kinda adds up. Especially when there is some drivers out there who do not understand the purpose of padding tarps.

The cost of steel tarps with quality domestic-made material is over $375 now. Our trucks carry 2 steel tarps, a half-sized steel tarp, and a canvas tarp. Over $1,000/truck is significant, and until EVERY driver start caring about the equipment like FEW do, tarp pay is not likely to increase very much.

Add shop labor and supplies into the mix, you're looking at an average of $35/hour doing the repairs yourself. The tarp shop will charge you a base of $75/hour. Food for thought.

Yeah I have 2 steels, 2 lumbers, and a couple of small pieces of tarp to use as padding tarps. Stuff is not cheap and then add in the labor to make it all or patch them and that is where all the money goes.

You need to check your math. If it's $10 to tarp, that includes both ends. 1/2 hour to tarp and 1/2 hour to untarp and roll them up is $10/hour.

I would also agree that a lot of drivers don't take very good care of their tarps. I have seen loads that that the driver let an $800 set of tarps turn into a set of tattered rags.

Untarping takes maybe 15 minutes and some loads can be tarped in less then 30 minutes depending on what it is. But yes some times you get that odd crazy load and it takes like an hour to tarp and that 15-20 minutes to untarp so sometimes it is low pay sometimes its ok. But all I have to say is that getting that 10 bucks is crap pay but at the same time being on % pay makes up for it with no doubt in my mind.

Untarping and rolling up a full set of tarps takes more than 15 minutes. I agree that some loads can be tarped in less than 30 minutes but on average if you are throwing a full set of tarps 30 minutes is the minimum.

I agree with you that $10 is crap pay. As long as drivers will put up with it, they will keep paying that kind of money.
