Trucker District is a mobile app platform currently in beta, this app geared towards our industry has a potentional risk to our industry. Once you sign up and access the platform, you can add others, like other social media, you can also enable gps and see others on the map,
Do other drivers see how this could be used by cargo thieves and or terrorists?
It's my intention to bring awareness of such an application and get feedback.
Is Trucker District platform dangerous for our industry?

What is the general use of the app? I guess it's some sort of "social networking" app geared towards truckers? I'll withhold further comment until I know more about it's purpose and any location tracking or broadcasting options that can be turned on/off or have the location resolution modified up or down by the user.
Nobody moving sensitive or valuable commodity is going to utilize such an app. And as long as the user has the option to "broadcast" location or not, and maybe has the option to only specify state as opposed to precise location down to the meter. If they choose to broadcast their commodity and location, that's just stupid. They can do that with Facebook as far as that goes.Oldironfan, MichiganOutLaw, Friday and 1 other person Thank this. -
The first post I made has a image of the app, drivers create profiles, they can add others as friends, similar to Facebook, but also has the option to turn on the gps to see all your buddies or whoever else you have as a friend on a map in real time (hopefully you add only people you know and not criminals and or terrorists)
I have attached another image showing the satellite option which appears to be similar to google earth built in, you could zoom in and see exact locations of othersAttached Files:

I came across this app on the app store the other day and downloaded it.. to be honest with you I like it. I've been using Trucker Path for a couple of years now.. although this still doesn't include all the stops they have it's well on it's way to doing so. Also I like the fact that it has a social network for truckers. As far as if it's a danger or not.. i don't think so. It lets me choose to share my location or not share it.. it's only like FB too where it displays nearby friends.. i'm looking forward to seeing how this will grow

If I had a million of something in that box, no one outside of my boss is going to know a #### thing. Ive been there.
We stick with flip phones and do not participate in apps with smart phone. We are aware of them but anything that exposes our current location away from home is a liability and is not used. We did not grow up and work under that kind of data collecting and we wont start now.#wishfulthinking, Oldironfan and MichiganOutLaw Thank this. -
