I agree, 4k is not that bad compared to student debt of $30,000. Risks have to be taken to grow in life

Your personal commitment to excellence in driving can take you on many adventures and places. You have to start somewhere and that's usually at the bottom of the payscale and simplest truck (dry van). However, I'm driving a empty 5 axle van around that pays $27/hr w/ bennies. That's because I've put my miles in w/ a clean record to get this good job.

I've been doing this since 1998. Yes, it has it's ups and downs, but what field doesn't? I've done other things as well, and even been successful at some of them. But I keep coming back to trucking.

It is what you make of it. I enjoy it, others don't. But hey! If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Ive been on my own for almost a month now. I had the same questions as you..
    Is this right for me?
Can i drive one of these big ol trucks?
Everyone told me it sucked and i wasnt going to like it. Well, they were WRONG. I love it and im made double in training than i did at a job i had done for 20 years.

It's NOT bad at all in fact. Gotta find your happy spot in the industry and just go for it. Been at it since '92.........don't plan on quitting anytime soon. Yes, I am an independent owner op, and am home nearly every weekend.

Hell, I went to a four year school graduated with B.S. and a ton of school loans... and I am no longer in that career but paid off those loans... Borrowed another $6k to go to CDL school and will soon be working to pay that off and probably make more per year driving than I did over those 25 years after college.

Sometimes having "skin in the game" is not a bad thing.

Why so quick to judge? He had his right blinker on,giving plenty of time for that truck to move.
