Is trucking worth it, given it's one of the most dangerous jobs in USA?

average pay $45K and im making $55k+ guess im not doing to bad. just because you get a CDL does not necessarily follow you MUST do OTR over a long period of time.its all a personal choice, i enjoy picking up my truck at the beginning of the day having an adventure for the day and parking it right where i found it when i started. not to say i dont enjoy driving.

as far as idiots on the road, NO SHORTAGE..... even on a local rural route. i see at least one or two extremely stupid moves per day by 4 wheelers. a couple of days ago i almost witness a head on crash. im in the right hand lane accelerating up to the speed limit, i had about 40K of milk onboard so gross around 65K. these things dont accelerate OR stop like a car and these dolts have no clue. said jerk decides to pass me but there was an oncoming car, i let of the fuel long enough for said moron to pass. nobody died, but i hope his nerves were shook as a blasted said moron with the air horns. sometimes i wish i had a really obnoxious train horn. these dopes have zero patience.

its unbelievable how bad some of these jerks drive, but it comes with the territory. i cant imagine driving truck in a major city (new york, chicago, ect ect) with even more dopes on the road, i see enough of it out in the rural areas.

i really enjoy being left alone, no one bothers me. i go to work, do my job and go home. my boss does not call me or bother me unless there is new information or a change in the load destination (happens on occasion)

i cannot imagine someone coming to a complete stop and waiting to be hit AND killed. incredibly stupid and no respect for the innocent life of the trucker, the trucker who very well might have a spouse and kids that depend upon him or her for an income and just being in their lives.

LOOK, if you are hell bent on killing yourself either get help OR get yourself a gun and take a dirt nap..... do not take out innocent people in the process. i prefer you get help, but please just take me out in the process.

It was worth it for me. Most money i have ever earned in my life...and the least i have had to physically work to earn it. Depending on your personal financial situation, it can be a life changer. I was putting $3k a month minimum in my savings account.

    Your post is complete nonsense.

"The only thing that'll make a truck dangerous is..." ???

Having a properly maintained truck is great.

When some sob in a big truck pulls into your lane going 5 mph, and you dont see an out, maintenance aint going to save you.

An alert 4 wheeler saved me that day.

    Look around you.

Stupid, careless and irresponsible people are everywhere. Any one of them can take you out at any time.

In all honesty you put yourself in danger just stepping outside your door. Trucking properly done should not be all that dangerous. However it is terribly unforgiving of mistakes, however thankfully most trucker mistakes don't cause deaths. I'm always tweaking @Chinatown about truckers making $150,000 a year. However both of us know good money can be made if a driver uses their brain. Your post @Wienerschnitzel while interesting to me is a bit Non Sequitur.
