They are arctic wolves in my avatar.
And no actually i had a terrible trainer but i knew he was bad so i joined this site to learn what he wasnt teaching me here. Also i ask alot of questions so if i see an experienced driver at a truck stop or what have you and we get to talking i bombard him with questions.
And, lol, i always said i belong in texas or somewhere in the south but alas i have obligations in this filthy state.
Is walmart the holy grail of company driving?

I pulled a trailer for walmart - for an owner operator. I was not a part of their private fleet, but I saw pretty much the same side. Only difference I saw was certain things like shop/truck washes/showers were provided for walmart fleet drivers, not guys pulling a walmart trailer. My day average was show up to the terminal 7am ready to run out my 70. Some days I got home, some days I stayed out. I would stand in line at the DC dispatch office, give them my available hours.....hang out and wait for a dispatch. Again, sometimes I was dispatched round trip back in a couple hours, do that a few times and go home, other days, I was sent to other DC's or wherever, and had to stay out. After each stop I had to call them and tell them where I was, that I was ready for dispatch, and how many 11/14/70 hours were left. If did a drop and hook I also had to include the trailer number. If I was dispatched to another DC, I would play the same stand in line, hang around wait for a load deal. Private fleet guys were treated the same but they could take a free shower or have a truck wash or whatever while waiting. Often times I was sent home after 2/3 days because they only had work for the fleet. Needless to say with a random schedule like that, and only making money when you work, that job didn't last very long. There were some other rules like specific to be followed directions in to and out of walmart stores/vendors/etc. Sometimes, it was nice, other times it was a total pain. One thing they always hammered was there were to be NO trucks (with walmart trailers) in a residential neighborhood. Get busted on that and you are out on your butt. I'm sure there are many others.

I concur! UPS Feeder jobs are the top of the chain. However i would drive a small parcel truck any day before driving for wal mart.
And folks, enough of the B.S. how walmart drivers are the safest -
I know a walmart driver, and have a good friend going through their hiring process right now, the moneys good, aeound $70,000, 5 day work week, ect. yea lots of rules, some people have no trouble with that. I don't think I would fit well there, I have never liked the working for big corporations. as far as the phones go, they are allowed 1 hour a day in no longer than a 10 minute interval while truck is in motion, so 6 10 minute calls, 12 5 minute, ect. Me, I spend most of my time delivering roofing steel to lumber yards, 15 to 20 stops over a couple days, straps off, straps on every stop, figuring out what each stop gets, busting hump to stay on schedule, I love it. about the same pay as walmart, much different type of job. Most of the drivers for our small company want nothing to do with these loads, but like I said it fits me perfect. that's the holy grail, not minding going to work on sunday, not being upset if I have to work a weekend.
