Im glade didn't go with wener.

I'm currently in the training stage with Werner with just over 30 hours to go until I'm solo.
Some things to point out:
The money issue - $325 a week during the first half of training and $350 after that. You get a $500 bonus if you stay out for the entire training without PTO (Paid time off) If you go home, you get 7 days paid home time # $350.
Time behind the wheel - This all depends on the trainer. I was averaging 50-55 hours a week with my first trainer. It's different with my second trainer since it's a dedicated route with a lot of stops. Some trainers are generous with hours and skills, while others don't let the student do squat. If you are not happy with your trainer - request a new one.
Extended training - The messages requesting students to stay with have slowed and I have not seen one come across the QC in over a month. Supposedly you get paid what you would where ever you get placed along with an extra 100 bucks to sweeten the pot. The reason for this is the lack of trucks for drivers. A friend of mine who just finished training had 14 people ahead of him waiting for trucks - 40 bucks a day while waiting.
The main beef I have with the company is the recruiting lies. After serving in the Navy AND Army you'd think I would have learned. I went with Werner because I was told I could get a dedicated route straight out of training. Not so much, there needs to be an opening and the wait can be a lengthy one.
I'm patiently waiting to see what they have in store for me come next week when I should be done. I have been looking for some local companies doing local or dedicated routes because I have had enough activations with the military and do not need time away any more.

Is it true that Werner has a very strict accident policy? I understand that even if a driver has been with them for awhile, a chargeable accident will mean termination?
-
I doubt that, I have been involved in a small accident that damaged a four wheeler slightly. Very slightly, less then 100.00 slightly, but all I got was to take a few tests they said it was so minor they wouldn't even make a note of it on the DAC... course I havent checked either.

Werner has got to be the worst company out there. Scary!!
-
Well the driver I know had a more serious accident than yours IROCUBabe. Apparently he was driving with a trainee and got tangled up with a four wheeler, being driven erratically, and ended up rolling the rig. I guess the company determined it was chargeable and they terminated him.
He had been with them for a few years and this was his first incident, but I guess it was enough to cost him his job. I was just wondering if this was company policy with Werner? One strike & you're out? -
Is Werner a good company?
In my opinion, absolutely not! Although I have never worked for them, they advertise constantly. Obviously that means they have a large turnover. Any company that has a large turnover should be avoided. There are reasons for this that you should already know.
As for accidents/incidents and being terminated for just one, welcome to being a right to work employee. Funny thing is, you can be terminated, at any time, for any reason and I do mean any. In fact, they are not obligated to even provide a reason. Look at what ever paperwork you signed. I guarantee you will find a clause that states you can be terminated with or without cause. Thats a big one that all of you should understand.

I would consider Werner for one reason if I was starting out. They have a long training period. I know people want to make money, but I know 2 guys who had the experience with swift where they went with a trainer for 2 weeks, then a trainee for 2 weeks as a team. It doesnt do a newbie any favors to be jammed out there. It just sucks that the entry level jobs are all crap.
