You want to work for a weak fledgling company that may or may not be around 9 months from now?

You need to find where you fit as a driver, I personally will never work for a large company, I don't want to just be a heartbeat in a seat. I enjoy the comradery of a small company. If they go out of business in six months I find another one. But I own my own truck now and that's a whole other ball game.

Actually.... In ancient times. If you worked for anyone. You were considered a slave. The term used was; indentured servant.

Then you could get a loan for a truck. Then, from ancient times, you would be considered a debt slave. Or debt bondage. In this case, you're a slave to your bank.

Pretty much the same with a lease on a truck. Only you're a slave to whomever leased you the truck.

In reality. We haven't escaped slavery.

There are jobs where you could work a lot harder for less money.
You always have a choice: 1. Take it, or 2. Leave it.

I agree with small companies going out of business. Been there seen that many times. Im still here, Im pretty sure everyone involved with failed companies found other work in this life.

I also agree with those who incur debt is in bondage. We made a effort to pay off our home early and it really hurt Chase to see that house paid in 6 years flat out of 15 year term. Im not certain exactly the interest Chase would have made on that remaining 8 years, but at 6 years we had tipped the debt into our favor when increasing amounts of principal got paid down. The real estate tax was only a few hundred annually.

When everything was paid off, we began to be treated as sort of enemies of the state in a comparison becuase we could walk into any bank and snap fingers and pick up 20K or whatever we wanted at any time (And did... and paid that off too... boy did they scream...)

What I am trying to get at is that the 8%, 15%, 20% 30+ % interest on all debt borrowed such as auto, home, credit cards etc is the main pillar of our banking system. I don't know if anyone agrees with that thought, but if all that went away in a debt free Nation the banks will be hard put to pay the light bill on .08% of interest.

I accumulated some medical debt this last 14 months, Im working on that problem. It's not welcome when they threaten to shove a large 4 figure bill into collections and slap a 40% penalty interest on that.

Indentured servitude is indeed alive and well in trucking. In my time, I borrowed 2500 from uncle sam to go to trucking school. It should have been paid off in 6 months or less, but no it took a little longer. We did not have companies paying for training cash to send someone to school and then come back to work under a promissory note or contract that is binding for 5000 dollars or whatever should that person be fired or quit after rubbing a post trying to dock or something.

That is the flaw that hurts so many, companies wont train much and they impose costs onto new employees who likely will be gone in 90 days for a variety of "PREVENTABLE" reasons that cost a company money. Who cares of Mr Newbie ripped off a door of a loaded reefer pulling out. Slap a new one on there right quick and take it from his pay, don't fire that SOB, especially if you know he is under contract to you.

I can go on, but I see a barrel of monkeys, a childhood toy without end, pull one out, 5 more hang on to it.

We can take it a step further and say that even with your own equipment and numbers you're still making money for other people by moving their freight from place to place.

Only way to not make money for other people is to quit your job, walk into the deep wilderness, and become self sufficient.

So working for a small company that treats one like an employee but pays a 1099 is more ethical? How about working for a small company that refuses to fix their equipment to dot regs? Or the small company that runs overweight on 100% of their loads. Or the small company....

Point is large or small doesn't matter. A company is either ethical or not. It's just a larger company has more opportunity to be unethical as there are more people involved.

Your views are unbalanced. You are looking at a career, and they are looking at meat in the seat. Swift is just a toe step, NOT the industry.

You’re feeling log a cog in a big machine...a number. You didn’t do what I told you to do. I told you to put your handle on the top of the drivers door, underneath the window, and then go out and give that name meaning. The company name on the door and who owns the company doesn’t mean squat on the road. Suddenly, you would go from ‘just another Swiftie’, to someone more specific.

What about the ten people behind you? What about them? I seriously doubt that George Washington worried about who would be president 10 years after he was leaving office. His name was already made.

Any system would be perfect, if humans were perfect. But since we aren't, there isn't a system we could ever establish that would be.

What is your definition of "perfect" [in the context of humans and society and work and trade, and the exchange of labor, skills, or knowledge for money?
