After reading this thread from the beginning I’ve just got this to say.
I worked for Golden State Foods ( delivering McDonalds restaurants) for 33 years retiring in November of 2011. I’m 72 now and I’m enjoying my retirement tremendously.
Food service is hard , no doubting it. But the secret to longevity as a driver is to not let anything hurry you. Do your job , work smart , and you’ll be fine.
Some folks hate it. Me , if I had the choice to make again. I’d not change a thing.jmz, scottied67, Lonesome and 4 others Thank this. -
So the hard work isn’t ad on your body as long as you are safety minded?FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

Nope. If you work safely you can make a career out of it. Will you have wear on your body oh, yes... Everybody does as they get older but if you work safe and smart you can make a loan career out of it. If you work like an idiot it can be a very short career.Tonythetruckerdude, Big8John and Lonesome Thank this.

That’s what the senior guys tell me. I played sports in school and college so I’m no stranger to hurting knees, joints and back. I came from a job where I sat on my butt for 15 years. I left because of the little to no pay and lack of room to advance. I came to food delivery for the money. Lately I’ve been worried about if I can do this until I retireFlaSwampRat Thanks this.

As annoying as all the safety videos are about lifting and moving weight (if your company does them) they are the way to do it. Also just like sports, stretching is a must!

How’d you deal with being away from family? I’m home every morning but it’s being far away Overnight that bothers me.
