Is yard hostling a good job for someone that can't find a driving job?

Wait until you try to open and close some JB , Hub rail boxes i won't elaborate , make sure you keep a 5ft pry bar , spud bar , 10lb sledge close by.
Make a 100 moves a night in a 12 hr shift for 4 years , i did and it sucked.
I'm glad KC in Neenah closed.

So I interviewed today, they said if I get my hazmat they would hire move me from the yard to a P&D drive4 making $25 an hour. Not sure how it would work with the abandonment, I guess my correctional officer plan doesn't work out I could potentially have enough time they might overlook it and let me drive. I'm sure I will have enough experience breaking and building sets by then

I ended up not taking the job, $16 an hour at 20 hours a week almost an hour commute each way is not worth, I'd be barely making enough money to fill up my F150 every week let alone pay bills.

That's a good idea, tow companies can't keep staff. Just remember you will likely start with a wheel lift and rollback while you learn the ropes with cars and pickups before they train you on medium- and heavy- towing.

I did this when I went back to college and got off the road. My senior year of college was spent in the classroom during the day and running a 30-ton wrecker at night.

Just remember, this lifestyle is not conducive to ANY drinking, as you will basically be on-call, 24/7/365 unless other arrangements are made for special occasions.

Lots of yard truck/hostler/insert_name_here jobs in the Nashville area. They generally pay from$16-25 per hour. OT pay ranges from straight pay for all hours worked to OT after 40 hours per week.

    Armyvet1,

Have you given a go at Truck Driver Temp to Perm Companies??
You would have a choice of many companies and can work 1 day to however many YOU decide.
YOU Set the available hours and days.

Are there any decent second chance companies that can help me clean my work history up or am I kind of screwed? I was also looking at getting my EMT certification and becoming an EMT for a bit and trying to get my foot in the door to a fire department but I imagine I am going to need to clean up my work history a bit before that's even a possibility
